That's the conventional take, but (as far as I can tell), the TPU program was also started under Sundar, which would have been a bold investment at the time, and looks like absolute genius in retrospect. OpenAI might be well-capitalize

Qwen 2.5 32B Coder is actually a viable locally-hosted alternative to Claude 3.5 Sonnet. It's not better , but if I couldn't access Claude for some reason, I would definitely use it.

Yeah, Blender have been getting serious about enforcing their trademark recently. BlenderMarket have said that Blender asked them to rename, and they’ve been around for years, contribute to Blender fund, etc. This will need to do the same.

Also FYI for anyone else, I can't actually see the gemini-2.0-flash-exp list in the model directory for Vertex AI in GCP Console, but passing in google/gemini-2.0-flash-exp to the vertexai Python SDK does actually work. (you'

Did anyone think Facebook would fall over because their engineering sucked? It’s the product itself that’s garbage, not the infrastructure or the code.

I was born in 1984, and I feel incredibly lucky that I grew up at the tail end of BBS's and the start of the dialup era. Things were changing blindingly fast, but it was still small/niche enough that you still had a strong sense o

That’s only because they were first. Here, Anthropic is first. If everyone starts using MCP today, any alternative OpenAI comes out with in a few months time probably won’t be able to dislodge it.

Agree, concise mode is much better for code. I don’t need you to restate the request or summarize what you did. Just give me the damn code.

I jumped on Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads during earlier exodi. They all waned for various reasons (Mastodon was slow and unreliable, Threads was basically an Instagram feed of nothingness, and Bluesky was dead at the time). This wave does

As someone who has slowly been writing Dart/Flutter bindings for Filament[0] over the last couple of years, I agree the internal 3D engine was a bit of a strange choice of priorities. [0] https://github.com/nmfisher

It's very much alive, too - LG just sponsored a hackathon to develop games for the new webOS store (including a Flutter-specific stream) with some legitimately good prizes (I think first prize was $100k, second was $80k).

If I genuinely thought I was close to AGI, I’d focus all my efforts on that, then ask it to build my revenue generators. That’s probably what Ilya is doing. (FWIW I don’t think we’re close to AGI).

I don't know, Dubai is...bigger, but I'd say it's vastly more mediocre city than Rome. To your original point, making things easier to make probably does exert downward pressure on quality in the aesthetic/artistic sense

I see quite a few SWE jobs here in Singapore in finance, mostly realtime C++ order management. If the advertised salaries are real, they're very well-paid (300-700k USD, plus bonus).

I wonder if a "mixture of models" is going to become more common for real-world use cases (i.e. where latency & dollar budgets are real constraints). Chain together a huge model for reasoning, a small model for function callin

Yes, you're probably right. I believe (?) the intention is also to publish Impeller as a standalone rendering engine (i.e. independent of Flutter). Will be interesting to see if there's a use case there too.
