It's more that, if "amateurs"/volunteers can replicate this, it means OpenAI doesn't have much of a moat. (OK, I admit that it wouldn't have been possible without Google's donated TPUs. But the cost isn&#x

I moved to Singapore from Australia about 18 months ago. I’m still struggling to cope with the heat (or more accurately, the humidity). I still exercise outside regularly, but only after dark. Admittedly, I seem to live in a hot part of tow

I think the point was more that many people can’t write unit tests because their code is so shoddy that it’s basically impossible to do so. It sounds like you and I share a similar methodology. I don’t write unit tests for all my code. In f

I love Bash too, but using it daily is probably more inertia than anything else. Some things are just downright horrible (for the life of me, I can never remember associative array syntax off the top of my head) but it's just so good w

I actually don't think there's much of a moat here at all. GitHub repositories are open for the taking, GPT-XXX is cloneable (mostly, anyway) and VS Code is extensible. They definitely have a good head-start, but I really don'

Yes, I’m very much the same. Windows 10 has been getting on my nerves for some time now, and the TPM requirement is the nail in the coffin, I’ll be switching to Linux desktop for my primary machines.

I keep seeing this argument cropping up and it’s really not a useful comparison. If you buy a share, you generally buy (a) a vote that you can use to kick out the board and replace them with someone who will pay a dividend, and (b) a shar

I'm really not sure that's true. I don't know exactly how many were built, but Melbourne (Australia) added a lot of CBD apartments and the price continued to shoot up. Those were overwhelmingly tiny/cheap/low-qual

I assume if you have a loan of $100,000 secured against an asset worth $1 million that appreciates 10% each year, you can basically continue rolling over the loan. As long as the asset value doesn’t drop, you never have to actually repay th

I agree, I don’t see why income tax couldn’t be levied on any amount greater than $X borrowed/secured by an asset as collateral. For all intents and purposes, it is income and should be taxed as such.

Those bonuses are then taxed too, which should give you a hint why corporate tax is a bit daft to begin with. Corporate tax is, by and large, a fiction to placate voters. It could (should?) be replaced with a more flexible system that isn&#

The dirty secret is that, despite what they may claim, venture capitalists aren’t good at picking winners, nor do they need to be. The real skill is in (a) raising funds from LPs, and (b) creating a wide enough deal funnel to service it. Th
