I got started (in an apartment in a city) using https://commonwoodworking.com/ and https://woodworkingmasterclasses.com/ from Paul Sellers. He focuses heavily on using hand tools instead of machines, so muc

I remember this from years back. A friend of mine came up with a fantastic strategy based around the fact that shot strength was a float that could be modified. He used this to have his team fire extremely weak shots at each other, with the

It's very frustrating. We use ZomboDB heavily, and the lack of extension support in AWS/Google cloud offerings prevents us from switching.

Thanks for the link, this sounds like it might well be the one. Mid/early 90s is around when I played it too.

This is true, I am very much enjoying it and not benchmarking my ability against others. My main frustration is around finding people to play with. People my age seem to have been playing since they were kids and have high skill expectation

It's a tough one. If you discover a passion for something as an adult, you'll often wish your parents had pushed you into it as a kid. I feel this way about music, zero education as a kid, started late as an adult, but feel I'

The game I wish existed almost used to exist, as a play by mail game. It was a swords'n'sorcery style adventure with a big open world, in which you had a party of adventurers. Every week you'd fill in a card with what 10-20 a

Some woodworkers still use manual drills (I own two, along with a brace and bit). They're useful for very exact/delicate work, quiet drilling, and for getting into awkward places where an electric drill doesn't fit.

I've been looking into that too, it makes a lot of sense to me (and appeals in a lot of ways). The newness is the only thing that's put me off, mostly due to lack of finding good examples compared to Vue/React for various thi

Thanks, that's super helpful. Would have loved to have found something like this as a high level flowchart or similar somewhere. Sometimes a lot of the tradeoffs or design choices behind a tech aren't obvious from the outset.

I'm an experienced backend developer but always struggled with learning modern web development. I understand all the core well (html, CSS, JavaScript, etc.), but struggle with choosing the right high level abstraction/framework&#x

I was similarly confused. The patterns look very similar to those used in some other languages (at least superficially), so would have been useful to know why those were considered bad. As a casual Go user, it wasn't obvious whether th

Exactly the same here. I've also gotten so used to vim keybinding support in almost everything I use (e.g. IntelliJ, VSCode, Obsidian) that I doubt I'd invest in anything without that. It sounds like that's on the cards for Z

I've felt similar recently, though more in the arts direction. In the past few years I've discovered a love for playing music, singing, drawing, and painting. All things I never got into as a child/teenager for various reason

I've had a similar experience, though my pain points were mostly around using privately hosted modules internally. I forget the solution, but involved messing about with the `GOPRIVATE` env variable, adding some `.insteadOf` entries to
