I think the author’s point is that the “extreme” is required, at least for him, in order to truly indulge in the escape. A walk/exploration would be too much of a connection to normal life. But to each his or her own!

This is awesome! Exactly the kind of library I’ve been looking for. Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to start with an OpenAPI spec and end up with a mock data set? With Mirage it seems easy enough to mock our API directly from sc

Apparently I’m the only person on earth who wants to know what kind of phone Bezos was using, which OS version, etc. It seems like this detail is conveniently being left out of every story. Anyone have any additional details? I understand

Not sure who's downvoting you, but I came here to say exactly this, and you're exactly right! All my numismatic spidey sense twitched when I read the story. I remember one of the first things I learned was that counter to instinc

I think this view could be abstracted as "tech is helping automate customer service into oblivion." I had a very similar experience this past week: I wanted a new dryer for the apartment. The goal was to have the installation pro

Just to add to that - I’m kind of in the same boat here. I had to read the homepage and intro sections a few times and I’m honestly still a bit lost in understanding who this benefits and why. Just by way of anchoring: I’m no dunce, I’m a

I see your point but at the same time - why is redefining the rules a bad thing? Why should people be obligated to evaluate themselves against criteria that’s popular or set by other people? Why does that actually matter?

This is timely! I never really learned C deeply (other than from a class in high school where pointers were considered 'too advanced'...so we didn't really get too far). I decided to work on this year's Advent of Code i

Now that’s more like it! That’s the attitude that I wish the original quote took. It is truly about merit, and Twitter (can be) a way to lower the boundaries.

Is the connection really valuable? I know in a discussion like this it has an abstract perception of value, but I wonder whether one can really assign value to most Twitter-based connections with so-called influencers.

Totally. And thank you for saying that. I think there is definitely a positive way of looking at this, I just don't think Bill Gurley captures that potential in his statement. I'll edit my comment.
