Twitter has a strong impact on our culture, but without a rational business model, and several quarters of profitable growth, an IPO will never happen. I certainly wouldn't buy stock in a company which doesn't know how to make money, no mat

Exactly. I think there's a lot of smart people in the Valley, but every time I hear a story like this, it sounds more and more like a clubhouse for middle schoolers.

The irony in this comment is delicious, in that by posting it, you've found a way to feel superior to me. Congratulations! You also completely misinterpreted what I was saying, but I suspect you're not interested in that anyway.

There are definitely limits. I'm not suggesting you use a 20 year old technology like MFC. However, using .NET 3.5 instead of 4.0? Just fine.

As an outsider to Silicon Valley, it really seems like it's full of drama and ego wars. Seeing grown men and women argue like children really makes me happy I resisted the urge to move out there.

Viewers don't recognize the font that something's in. At most, they might recognize the feeling that the font gives them, but that's probably a subconscious reaction as well. Consider the situation in which someone sends an important and se

People are born with different skills. While I sense some hyperbole in the previous comment, there's no reason to attack him. I'm also not a great team player -- I work very well in small teams, particularly when I'm in a leadership role, b

For what it's worth, it's the same in the US, except from what I understand about UK law, it's much easier to be fired in the US.

I never agreed with that statement. It makes it seem like startups are a way to get rich quick -- and more often than not, they aren't.

Startups aren't for everyone, but I was an $85k a year salaried .NET developer and hated it. The money was nice, but the job was unfulfilling and the high paycheck really just left me feeling like I was prostituting myself. I walked away, l

To your customers, there is no difference between your "design" and your "product". If I had to choose between scrimping on design and scrimping on features, I would choose the latter hands down.

It looks better than previous versions, but it's just a shitty knock-off of Chrome. It's hard to argue that Chrome defined the minimalist look for browsers.

I don't think anyone is debating the point that it's possible that acquisitions can end up this way. But even putting aside the hyperbole and absolutism that's shown in this article, I challenge the claim that acquisitions go poorly more

Yet another black and white, egotistical, all-knowing piece of shit post on SVN. I used to be inspired by this blog, but now it's just so much drivel.

It's just an asynchronous load of data, so I don't see why Chrome couldn't leverage it as well. Might lead to some interesting UI, actually.

The author seems to get confused himself about PUT vs. POST. At one point he says POST is used to create resources, and at another point he says PUT matches up roughly with SQL's INSERT (ignoring idempotence).
