They might ask for 35 years but if the judge gives him 35 years i'd go out to the prison with some free Aaron signs and do a hunger strike. I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one. That would be outrageous. Actually any jail time would be ridi

Why aren't they just trying to void the damn patent in question?

You don't always have to get new data to make a splash. I particularly like this project (it's in neuroscience but similar things probably exist in biology) http://neurosynth.org/ They are doing meta-analysis of the neuroscience literatur

I fit the mold you are talking about. I started working for a neuroimaging lab about 1 year and a half ago. Basically I'm not a scientist at all, did Math as an undergrad but almost no stats or any of that type of vodoo stuff (topology, abs

HTC has some leverage but I have a feeling, after seeing OS 10.7, that Apple cares less about the Mac then their iOS devices. Would they sacrifice the Macs for the chance to block Android?

I just don't believe most software patent fit the description of an algorithm. The real problem with them is they are patents for idea an not for implementation as an algorithm might be considered. When Amazon patented A 1 click button. The

I'm not for software patent but I always found the "Software is a mathematical algorithm" thing annoying. I don't think it's a really good argument against software patents.

So after reading the article I didn't see as piracy creates purchases but more as, there are people who just can't get enough and they buy and copy to satisfy themselves. Similar to drug addicts and the RIAA is similarly trying to keep on s

I'm a little sad for RIM and would like to support a Canadian company but in the end they just aren't able to adapt. I don't think they ever will unless there is a management change. Seriously a tablet that can't receive email Nativity? Tha

I was thinking the same thing. To help him out NASA could be called defense spendings (alien invasion ;p) and there is also DARPA the two most useful agencies I know off both had an impact on space exploration.

But the retirement should be gradual right? When the economy slopes back down I was under the impression that Keyne's theory would suggest deficit spending again. Hence you'll always be yoyoing but never fully paying. You're right that his

Thanks for linking that, I find that very useful. I'll try to find a chart showing change in GDP during those years, I'm going to guess the debt was growing the whole time and GDP was the thing fluctuating.

"But when people are assessing how big a problem the debt is the question they are asking is how much it will impact our overall standard of living when we inevitably have to start paying it off" Fair point but will we have to pay it back?

I too feel like there something there people think has value but the average person doesn't see. But maybe there is nothing and this is really as irrational as it looks.

It would have made sense to compare that to total GDP or something other than a building, I find it kind of useless as it is. It's big but seriously you're talking about the largest economy in the world. I don't get all the irrational fear

Well, I'm going to guess that the prosecution is putting that in there just in case they can get the jury to agree. They can claim anything they want, the jury has to decide if it's true without a doubt.

I like this example about the man and work. Why does the man find value in what work gives him in return? Because he feels he needs those things, he can still make the choice not to get them but why would have this choice in the first place

I don't understand why you think it's all BS. People might have unlimited wants but they have a limited amount of ressources to obtain those wants. The reality is, there hasn't been a real labor intensive new thing in the past 30+ years. Wh

Depends it's useful to know exactly how much it will be, sometimes it's not a big deal but it can make a big difference when there are large swings in exchange rates. I personally much prefer knowing exactly what I will pay.
