It's a real shame, Ubuntu used to be my go-to distro, but for me this is the last straw in the history of shady things Canonical has done. One of the things I liked most about Ubuntu is that the installation process is incredibly easy

Not quite true, Webmentions are used extensively by the IndieWeb[0] community (which is where the Webmention spec was born). It's unfortunate that the author linked to the Wikipedia page instead of the Webmention page on IndieWeb wiki[
