One thing this article doesn't mention is that in many cases databases scale poorly, and only vertically. You can throw a bunch of domain logic in complex SQL queries and see significant performance benefits, but at some point you may

I've actually switched back to using exclusively "low" DPI screens because I feel like it's just not worth the hassle. They're high enough resolution for me, maybe if I was a photographer or into video I'd care

This is a fantastic and detailed guide. I'd love something similar for Australia.

Honestly this just sounds more like a complaint about ORMs than LINQ in general, though I do agree with it.

Right, of course. Blanket scary statements like that make me nervous. Long live KDE. :)

>From February onward, everyone, including open-source Qt users, will require valid Qt accounts to download Qt binary packages. Hopefully this doesn't include redistributed binaries. I really do like KDE.

Rumour is that's coming in March, but it's likely to be iPhone 6 sized rather than iPhone 5 sized, which is a pity.

First few lines of the link answers that question: cmd1; if ($?) { cmd2 } = cmd1 && cmd2 cmd1; if (-not $?) { cmd2 } = cmd1 || cmd2 Just your usual Powershell verboseness.

My wife and I were hunting for a new apartment a few years ago, and after looking a few houses in a village around 30km from Amsterdam we stopped at the local pub for a drink. Got to talking with an old local and explained that we were torn

I agree with you entirely. The majority of Dutch houses are very well designed and built, and extremely comfortable. It's a world away from my native New Zealand.

I agree about ligatures. I use them whenever I can because they look cool, but sometimes I think it actually is to my detriment. For example, if I mistakenly type `->` it looks very similar to a ligatured `-->`.

But also, the point about .NET is complete garbage. The full .NET 3.1 SDK download for Mac OS X is around 100MB. Based on that hyperbolic statement I'd be hesitant to trust anything else on the site. EDIT: I know he says "the appl

I love it, but it's REALLY slow in Windows on the new MS Terminal, which is typically actually quite fast. Noticeably laggy and I can see the screen redraws. Anyone have any idea why, or how to speed it up?

Sadly I think this is just another case of product adoption largely being driven by techies in the early stages because they loved it, and later in its growth stages realising their market is now way more mainstream and designing their feat

That's cool, but it's also several hundred dollars more expensive. I feel like the $200US price point really brings thing like this down to another level. Not exactly 'disposable', but more like a small appliance rather

Drenthe has a reputation in the Netherlands as being a somewhat backwards region in the middle of nowhere. This isn't really helping the reputation. :) A common "meme" is to claim Drenthe doesn't exist.
