The one issue I have with AlternativeTo is it sometimes conflates a website and an app. Your link, YouTube, is a good example. NewPipe is a great open-source alternative to the YouTube as an app (it's a YT client), while PeerTube is an

Windows already tried the desktop widgets thing in Vista, and apart from a few (sticky notes come to mind) people didn't seem to really like them.

I'm not sure what you mean "data fields within markdown". You could definitely use markdown within fields of a recfile. There would be some multi-line syntax you wouldn't be able to use, because it would conflict (e.g. &

If they make that argument, it shouldn't be much of a stretch to say that the 2nd amendment should apply to this technology then.

The simplest board game I can think of is Snakes and Ladders, which is based on an ancient Indian game. It definitely seems like the kind of thing that could be independently invented. It's so based in random chance.

I think it really comes down to the kinds of games you play, and the way you like to play them. If you tend towards single-player, story-based games, like Red Dead etc., then maybe playing through it once and moving on is enough for you. Th

In the case of the DS at least, the big differentiator is that the second screen is touch, and is positioned in a more touch-friendly place. If your one-and-only screen is touch, you have to lift your arms up away from your buttons to press

I think you've hit on a good compromise: videos with a transcript (including code examples). That way, people who want a video have a video (with the bonus of something to read-along to), and people who want text have text.

I have been using Firefox Developer for about 6 months, but after two incidents of week-long bugs that caused my browser to crash after a variable number of minutes, no matter what I had open, I've decided to swap back to the release v

One of the scariest parts of this to me is that the vast majority of Aussie developers don't seem to even be aware that such a law was proposed, let along already passed.

This is the line the Australian anti-encryption bill that past last year was trying to walk with its "no systemic backdoors" clause. The idea/claim was that the bill only allowed targeted spying, and systemic/bulk spying

It's worth noting that only devices (PCs, mobiles) using the official Dropbox app count as devices. I've never used the official app to connect to Dropbox, so now I guess I never will.
