Surprised to see people claiming that this isn't essential knowledge. Understanding what the system is doing at its core allows you to answer these questions; as 'tricky' as they may seem. If you're dealing with JS, you should know how th

I wasn't trying to make that assertion, actually. Maybe I wasn't all that clear, but my first point with regards to unlimited vaca policy is that even though it seems to be giving individuals freedom (like working from home can be seen to b

This blog post is wonderfully written; it succinctly outlines the benefits and the caveats from both the employer and the employee's perspective. "I’ll let you in on a secret: most of our remote developers work longer hours than our in-of

Agreed. I live in Kendall Square, and over the past two years rent has gone up 10%, and studio's start at $2700. in this area 1BR > $3K.

Nice write-up. As a developer who has a keen design eye, but prefers not to actually deal with Photoshop (particularly icons!), this approach has been a huge relief for me. I know there are many out there, but if anyone is looking for a nic

Thanks again. I've taken care of most of the issues described above and from various comments. The click handler issue was an artifact of my adding an XML response into the question and answer divs. Really strange behavior, but it's fixed.

Fair point. That portion of the URL is simply used for display purposes, so I can pretty much do anything; dashes, underscores, or encode it as a URI component. Seems that dashes/underscores are preferred?

Thanks! Just a heads up -- I have added user registrations (currently using Google to do the Auth work for me). If you look at the top right of the navbar, there's a sign-in link. If you sign up, you'll be able to star questions, and then r

The issue of the checkboxes is simply a matter of me enabling it. I set it up for being able to select multiple tags, but I suppose in hindsight launching without implementing it wasn't the best idea. The second checkbox point -- definitely

Thank you for all the feedback! There are numerous points listed above that I'm aware of and definitely want to refine (just simply wasn't able to get to it in order to launch). Others are a result of my building it and not using it extensi

I've been really digging AppEngine and Python lately. You're right that most of the work is done on the front-end, but I enjoy many things about the AppEngine ecosystem and in this case the ease in integrating user auth was one of the reaso

You're absolutely on point - my intent was to enable selecting multiple tags (since the SO API supports it), I just wasn't able to get to that this weekend. Will implement it asap.

HAH, this is _awesome_! I've been feeling this way for some time.. moreover, I feel like HN and Reddit seed a lot of articles nowadays. Either way, thanks for taking the time and posting this.
