It uses magpie RSS lib, but it's probably a pretty old version by now. If it doesn't auto-discover the feed you can just enter the feed URL, it should work.

Very cool. Reminds me of an app I once co-built (with the now famous Mr. Bragger ;) that lets you skin an RSS feed with a customizable HTML/CSS template (compatible with Tumblr's template markup) http://feedvolley.com/ (code: https://git

For a long time Twitter apps were developed simply to enjoy the Twitter hype rather than any financial gain. For some reason Mainstream media adopted Twitter as the invention of the century, so developing a unique Twitter app was a way to g

Seems to me the real killer would be the "$35 tablet" type devices, and they won't compete with with iPad or with laptops, but with paper (and that's a market Apple probably isn't even interested in)

You might ask, what objectively changed since those days when $1B was considered a huge deal? If not a lot, then we're in a bubble.

Perhaps it should refer to all the brilliant people in %90 of web startups in general. The majority of Silicon Valley's (NYC perhaps even more so) recent output is fluff, stuff that impacts people's lives about the same as drugstore celebri

Google doesn't block you from releasing your own apps, though. They don't use the Market to enforce their interests (and if they would there's Amazon's app market etc).

IIRC in PHP every array is internally a hash (ie "associative array"), so $bar is {0:1, 1:2, 2:3} in any case?

the language they built and let everyone in the world use for free powers sites from wikileaks to whitehouse.gov, and its simplicity allowed a lot of non-programmers to write working code and sometimes even start new careers. so it is pos

Most Scandinavian nations have mandatory conscription. I wonder if requiring all citizens to serve isn't preferable to establishing a military that ultimately consists of those who have fewer alternatives for making a living. As for obedien

It is controversial when you define it "Israel attacks on Gaza". The attacks go both ways - eg, Hamas rocket hit an Israeli school bus this morning. (This stuff might have had a place here once, but as it is now the HN thread won't be any m

No need for a program - you can just do it. Even go outside the US (some countries have a work/holiday visa program, eg Australia). It's a great learning experience.

Not sure if reputation mechanisms would work in a site where people often post just once, and that doesn't require creating a user account in order to post. I would love it if CL's sublet section would take some hints from AirBnB. That said

"Disregard hype, acquire savings", whether by taking on project work at high rates or getting investments (if you feel you need them). A bubble is a good time to build your reserves, especially if you're aware it's a bubble and stay frugal.

That's what happens in a hype-driven market - when startups aren't expected to make real money (eg Twitter's evaluations vs income) decisions are made based on hype, which is influenced by track record, celebrity status, media attention etc
