SQLite made and makes a lot of money from a lot of the people who use them. It's free for us to use, but it wasn't free for Motorola and AOL and Nokia (and later Google, Apple and Adobe) who contracted the team to build it out, ad

I’ve used Astro on Cloudflare for a few years for my personal website (username.com). They’ve both been absolutely fantastic, I can’t say enough good things about both of them. My website has all 100s on PageSpeed/Lighthouse, and that’

Honestly I don't have an idea. I guess the stuff I write about I know enough to get a good first draft out, preserving my voice. But if I read a first draft by an AI I think I would be influenced.

https://nindalf.com . I've written a few posts that have made it to HN [1]. I strongly oppose writing with LLMs and think it's more important than ever to write with our own words. If my writing is to be better than LLM

I just saw GPT 5.2 do something absurd. It has a crazy amount of money ($26k) but folded with a 4-pair before the flop. That's insanely conservative, when it would have cost just $20 to see the flop. But even worse, on the very next ha

Night Watch is my favourite book of his, as it turns out. He is capable of exploring serious themes while still maintaining some whimsy. That's why I love him so much.

Sqlite's test suite is closed source, so no one other than the Sqlite authors can attempt that. That said, you may be interested in this attempt by Turso to rewrite Sqlite in Rust ( https://turso.tech/blog/we-will-r

I miss Terry Pratchett. Just a good guy, writing joyful books. None of that "gritty realism" here. There's only about 40 books by him, so I read 2 a year. By the time I get to 40, I figure I would have forgotten the first few

Yes, that's right. I mainly read on the kindle and I make a lot of notes and highlights while reading. These notes are synced to Amazon's cloud, which I can access by scraping read.amazon.com. I read paperbacks too, but I just add

Which part? I have a python code base ( https://github.com/nindalf/kindle-highlight-sync ) that scrapes read.amazon.com for my book highlights. It then exports the data into markdown files that are imported by my website

Incredible that you’ve managed to bring this conversation to immigration. In fact, it sounds like you’re saying the root cause of this crappy policy is somehow immigrants. Far fetched and not cool.

It’s interesting to see both kinds of drones in Ukraine as well. Ukrainian drones are built for €300 or so and they’re staggeringly effective. “Western” drones as made by Helsing and other companies cost several thousand. While they may hav

These guys are fine, but they can’t drive broader societal change if the words “sexual assault” or “rape” is scrubbed from mainstream discourse. Imagine if HN autodeleted any comment with these words, we couldn’t even have this conversation

Who is going to join a forum dedicated to discussing rape? Absolute weirdos, that's who. But you're not going to enact any kind of broad societal change by talking only to those weirdos. You need to reach a broad audience and conv

Even today YouTubers and TikTokers go out of their way not to use certain words that lead to being demonetised or having their reach limited. They use euphemisms like unalive or grape instead of suicide and rape. These are terrible things w

I think it’s easy to implement this, but the flip side of making platforms responsible is that they become much more restrictive in what’s allowed to be discussed. They start banning topics preemptively, just to limit their exposure. And if

Pro tip from an absolute rando: don’t bother with any source of breaking news. Read a weekly paper that summarises the important stuff. If something is truly pressing, you’ll hear about it from friends or coworkers.
