No. It's a result of Ian Taylor being part of the Go team and the gcc team. To the best of my knowledge, the gccgo frontend is not written as a gcc plugin.

While it looks nice, I'm not so sure about learning a language by using Google Translate. The results produced are not always examples of good writing.

It's very similar to the StackOverflow type of sites. Except, perhaps, that no discussion is allowed, and questions aren't tagged/labeled. The one problem I see with these sort of sites is that if they aren't focused on a subject (or someho

Unfortunately, the article fails to list the origin of these travelers. I suspect most are from the developing countries in the area. [One exception may be the "baby production industry". India provides inexpensive surrogacy services. Som

Homebrew on OS X uses the same approach to install packages. It works as long as the installed software doesn't have to modify system files (/etc).

This shouldn't have reached the frontpage. Nothing interesting or new here - Python's memory allocation scheme and garbage collector aren't state of the art.

I must be missing something basic here. Where is the search box? Otherwise -- very nice! (Although somewhat close to StackOverflow in typical use)

There is also mathjax ( http://www.mathjax.org/ ) which can render MathML if your browser supports it (the actual markup you use is the de-facto standard LaTeX notation). Now I only need something that will let me paste Matlab figures into

Regarding NTP vs. RIM: seems like the NTP patent was, in fact, invalid as will be determined by an ongoing patent office reexamination: http://spectrum.ieee.org/at-work/innovation/rim-v-ntp-yet-ag...

Careful with the patents... Cellular technology is an IP minefield. However, as long as you stay small and do it for educational value and fun -- you're OK. Also -- there's a big difference between making a call and sustaining the call acro

Does the Kindle support complex science books well? I bought one statistics book and the equations and graphs do not scale with the text. For fiction I still prefer small paperback books. Easy to swap with friends and simple to use.

Most research papers typeset using LaTeX use ugly fonts as well -- the computer modern fonts. In fact, when it comes to presenting equations, even major publications use these ugly CM fonts. They usually use Times Roman for the text itself.

Infineon does not produce application processors for the mobile market -- except perhaps based on ARM technology. They do make baseband and RF chips that are used in cell phones. Intel definitely wants to get into the mobile / cellular bu

It all depends on the operator. A UMTS (3G) network can accept users using a GSM SIM if the operator allows it. Authentication is performed by the network HLR (Home location register) which is independent of the radio technology used. The p

Similar complaints here: http://gitguru.com/2009/03/18/git-enterprise-requirements/ While I personally use and like git, it's just too low level for general use. Too easy to mess up the repository. Git is a very good basis for version con

I believe one of the more important differences between a GSM SIM and 3G USIM is that the network is required to prove its identity to the user. You can use a standard GSM 2G SIM with a 3G WCDMA network and in that case only the network r

It's better if you have cellular reception (and sometimes you need your carrier to enable that feature for you). Unfortunately, if you are using non-assisted GPS on these newer phones, you get poor performance. They were designed for AGPS

Is it just me or do other people find the documentation on hackageDB lacking and too often very beginner-unfriendly? Something similar to Perl's http://perldoc.perl.org/ (really excellent!) would do a lot to help beginning Haskellers!

Is there any prepackaged LDC binary for OS X? It's annoying having to download DMD (Digital Mars compiler) just to compile LDC.

Thanks! I really like the Facebook app/games idea, since current video games set the bar way too high for any individual working alone. Making "Pong"-type of games will probably not impress anyone these days :)

Can you report on what works and what does not? Specifically, I'm interested to know whether Javascript in the browser is good enough, or too difficult to use in practice.

This sort of system never seems to work in practice. Very quickly you get to a point where every app asks for so many permissions it does not need. You end up just "clicking through" the installation without much thought. Either developers

Well, you could always ship software in platform neutral code and make the final transition to native code when they are installed (either with something like gcj or use some intermediate representation like LLVM does).

I was kind of hoping for something along the lines of LyX. Where you always see and edit a rough approximation of the document (jsMath might be useful for math display).
