This is the "closure/object isomorphism", basically. The outer function (cons) is a class constructor. It returns an object, which is a function of one argument, where the argument is equivalent to the name of a method. In th

This is where people go wrong! You're not paying to be driven anywhere. You're paying the driver to want to go to the same place where you are, and then he might as well give you a ride there. So it's completely different, an

The post about the revamped Amiga made me think of this. I'm a hardware nerd as well, but ultimately, hardware is a means to an end, isn't it?

The thing you have to understand about Denmark is, there is no "off the grid". If you have a house that it's legal to live in, it's connected to public utilities. There are no unnamed roads or unnumbered houses here. (Or

No. He's in Denmark where he was recently convicted of breaking into a government contractor's system. I don't think he's actually in solitary anymore, though, but he's still locked up.

I don't know, but I have an MA in linguistics and I actually thought you were using that as an example of a sentence that was easy to read, as it's completely clear to me... I think I might actually talk like that sometimes.

I hope the same, but it's not likely in the short term. Intel seems to understand open better than a lot of hardware companies, but it's still got its share of NDAs. And a proprietary compiler AFAIK.

I really like the idea of OpenSCAD, but the language is just unacceptably crappy. It's still better for me with my habits than anything graphical, though. If it had better capabilities for abstraction I think it'd much more suitab

OpenSCAD is functional (mostly), but it could have been great if they hadn't invented their own language. Then you could have had fancy features like error messages.

If you feel like it's a problem and you're trying to fix it, I honestly wish you nothing but the best of luck. Personally I'm wary of being obsessed with being productive -- especially at work. I had a bit of breakdown toward

Yes, very much so. The book contains some quite technical walkthroughs of the Amiga, both software and hardware. In enough detail that a technical person will be able to understand more or less exactly what's going on, but without requ

This is a great series. I can also really recommend the book the author wrote, which presents a more technical view of the Amiga: https://mitpress.mit.edu/books/future-was-here

I only got into Slowdive a year or two ago so I can't think of it in terms of scenes or who drank at which pub in 1993. But without that context I think they made one good and one great record -- objectively so, as much as one can say

Because will pay it. Some people think cabling, storage media etc. makes a difference in audio quality even when it is digital data. Naturally this has no basis in any reality, but that doesn't prevent anyone from believing it.

Local labour laws allow this. Who's to say if it's internal or external pressures that keep them like they are -- there are certainly locals who are also making money off this. As for what you can do, you can sew your own clothes.

Hard to tell from the site if the language is proprietary or if it's just the IDE they're flogging. I have to say "what this needs is another proprietary component in the toolchain" is not something I've ever though
