Yes, in the paid tier we can make it much longer (or a user selection). It puts pressure on the storage, but that's also moves to S3 so the costs are not too bad. We do have users that created 1Tb of history for a sub 100Gb database.

We have all the machinery to enable querying the past potentially specifying LSN in the connection string. What Ux would make sense?

That's right. Our approach is "no knobs". We think the system can make better decision on what should be offloaded to S3 vs kept on the pageservers which leads to zero configuration to the users.

You can try Neon(neon.tech). Disclaimer I’m CEO. We architected Neon such that it’s very cheap for us to keep the database forever. It’s still behind the waitlist but it’s coming off in a few weeks. Also if you onboard via hasura.io there i

This is very cool! This technology will open the door to preview environments in CI/CD. If you also have a versioned filesystem you can efficiently create lots of snapshots that store VM images differentially you can introduce a branch

Did you guys think about live migrations? https://github.com/cloud-hypervisor/cloud-hypervisor seems to support it and it shares a good amount of code with firecracker.

Can this become an embedded database? I noticed that the load time is quite high. That's prob due to the size of the binary. I think the size can be dramatically reduced if you remove stuff that is not practical in the browser.

That's right. The important observation is that in OLTP queries are mostly small and can fit into one node. Neon architecture allows to scale read throughput by spinning up read replicas (or read endpoints to the same storage in our ca

This is a very good question. We are working on it and will be publishing a blog post on autoscaling very soon. We are experimenting with VM Migration technology that would allow to transfer the state between compute nodes and failover traf

Let us work on it! Short answer is Neon is most similar to AWS Aurora - 100% compatibility with Postgres and all the innovation is on storage and serverless. The use case is core database for apps. And Citus is shared nothing architecture p

As a matter fact lots of things can potentially benefit. Elastic, duckdb, but more importantly the new projects. I was discussing with Wes that we can put arrow compute on top of neon storage.
