Also, a suggestion for non-technical cofounders: Do not tell us a list of technologies that you think we need in order to cofound a company with you. (I've seen this happen a lot.) If you think your technical cofounder needs [java/php/rail

I think many entrepreneurs think they need the 12 months in runway and thus the first step for their business is to find someone to give them the money. IF you go and raise that money from investors, it will likely take you 6 months (ser

In my experience, you're both right. You need the agreements so that the business doesn't get killed by bickering between co-founders, and you need to not spend a whole lot of time on "corporate matters" when you should be building the pro

I know the site is a joke but there is a real disconnect. There is this idea of a "business person" in a startup. But I think everyone serious enough about startups to be on HN, if you'll think about it, will realize there is no "business

I know there's a huge difference between programming and computer science. I bet there's at least as large a gulf between business and what they teach in business school. When I was in college one of the people I got to know was a guy who

People tend to focus on the plug formfactor, and I am sure it will be convenient for every charger plug to fit. But such standards inherently limit what you can do. By defining a charger you are also defining a voltage and current capacity

Apple stores had two things the thieves needed: High value merchandise that can be fences for a good return, and a very convenient checkout process. You don't even need to go to a register in most stores, and the employee is more concerned

Of course, I thought that way in 2007, and at the same time thought twitter was pretty absurd and a product of the silicon valley echo chamber and could not see why any mainstream people would use it. But this time, I'm really sure! Serious

It sounds like you have a really good friend in Tennessee. I think if you pursue this further, you can still do it in Tennessee. I think that your current "customer" isn't really interested, and that it will not be hard to part amicably, o

While the leaked cables have caused unrest, I suspect that, if successful at throwing off dictators, they might well deserve the peace prize. No chance they will get it, however, as the Nobels are clearly highly politically influenced.

I think the real problem here, or maybe the most corrosive problem here, is that there was likely no legitimate warrant provided for this closure. I haven't investigated this case, but a similar case of "siezure" by the FBI involved a compa

Don't know NJ well, but having been there for awhile I can say that I would much rather live in a cost effective area and have a good daily commute than work in NYC. It may be "cooler" but it is a lot more expensive, and a lot less conveni

The reason there is no problem with the iphone 4 antenna is not that it is impossible to obscure the signal or cause signal loss, but because the new design pulls in signals better-- over all-- than the previous design. The issues you can

I've edited my post to remove that line because I think it was an expression of emotion and over the top. As for Gruber, I really don't like him at all. He kinda represents a lot of the qualities I'm objecting to, as you point out.
