Chapter support, playback rate control, smart speed (skips silences), voice boost, a UI that’s less horrific than Spotify’s are the main things for me.

> it does what I want it to This is Spotify's main advantage: most people already have it installed, and it's good enough if you don't care that much about the podcast-listening experience.

How is this 'arbitrary' ("based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system")?

> I'm sorry noone wants to listen to your garage band anymore That's exactly the problem. People _are_ still listening to local bands, they're just not paying them to do so.

At least several decades, I’d say. This is a hugely complex, multifaceted problem. LLMs can’t even write half-decent screenplays yet.

Genuinely curious: what is your workflow that it requires more than 2 external monitors? Pro video?

And autocomplete! The new iOS 17 completion stuff is neat but nothing compared to what state-of-the-art LLMs can do today.

I feel like people outside universities just don't care (because why should they?), and people within universities, at least the one's I've been in, are very, very, aware of this toxic culture, but pretty much powerless to do

I was reminded of that too. I’m fairly certain they stopped doing that when Portnoy left.

All the issues you mention could be solved by more investment in public transport. I'm assuming you're from the states — try taking public transport in a country where it functions well, and see if you change your mind.

To add to this good point — jazz is another genre where the performer is hugely important.

I think (based on zero insider knowledge) that's a UI decision. Cluttering up an app most people use to search for Ed Sheeran or w/e with data attributes like 'conductor', 'orchestra', 'composer', etc

Eh. You can _say_ that, but it's clearly no coincidence that the word for 'male' and for 'person' were the same for a long time. 'Person' seems like the obviously neutral choice to make, hence my question:

An interesting question for sure. I think film scores tend to have one canonical recording, which sets them apart from other 'classical' music in which the interpretating performer is of high importance. But it's always going

Last I used Spotify for podcasts, it didn't have chapter support, didn't have shownotes support, didn't have smart speed (skipping silinces), don't think it had any concept of playlists or queues, and so on. Some of that

Seriously, it seems like this is getting worse and worse on HN lately. I know the site has always had a neoliberal white tech-bro bent, but it's getting absurd.
