In France, specifically Marseille and Paris, some fire brigades are military units, not civilian. Is this something that's done in the US as well?

This is different since they were exterminated by humans, not by natural processes. It could be argued we have the moral obligation to bring them back if able.

Exactly. Unless of course your income is so high that day to day expenditures are basically a rounding error. Then you can profit handsomely from other people's misery. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer is particularly true duri

This is true for investment debt like real estate. If you're taking on debt to pay for basic necessities because salary rises don't match inflation it's an altogether different situation.

Have had the same experience with my son. The T1 eyeball scene, even while quite primitive by modern standards, was much more impactful to him than anything in Stranger Things.

I had completely given up on Node and JavaScript in general until I had a chance encounter with Typescript recently. Seriously looking at deno specifically for the built in TS support. Will never touch basic JS again.

Sure, until you're stuck on some inner loop with a poorly performing language. Of course,if you're doing microservices correctly, it should be easy to separate the parts where performance is important and write them in a language

It's not applied very uniformly though. The ongoing glysophate debate is a good example, there's reason to believe it's harmful in several ways and yet banning it doesn't look set to happen anytime soon.

Just a guess here, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's used to better spy on your messenger audio conversations. They already listen in and will pick up keywords to populate your FB ad stream.

I have a bit of that root for the underdog mentality too, but my support of AMD in the last few years has been due in large part for their Linux support. Not having to worry about 3D drivers working on a kernel update is such a nice thing.

A lot of manufacturing for these materials aren't in Europe though. New factories and associated logistics chains, finding and training workers, these things are difficult to set up in a few months, never mind the actual process of ren

Great news! Had some problems with my Jabra USB sound card for wireless headphones until I switched over to pipewire. Also helped latency issues in OBS studio with my USB mic.

I'm not a big fan of Java personally, as in I would not start a side project with it. But in this case it's actually a great choice. Static typing, stable, mature, good performance, known by tons of engineers all over the world...

I'm thinking by "all over Europe" they mean "transfered between 2 terminals in CDG"... which truthfully is about as soul crushing as it gets.

Even assuming they are, it's not like they exist in a vacuum, and don't have any allies. I'm sure the Gulf states and Pakistan, even China or Iran would be happy to help.

Your definition of "racism" is far too broad if that counts as a racist statement to you. Let's not confuse nationalism with racism, even if the two are quite often intertwined.

It doesn't make for a very pleasant life, stuck underground on a planet with no atmosphere. Better to strip mine Mercury and use the metals for building a Dyson swarm.

The amount of work that goes into maintaining a yacht far exceeds the financing available to public infrastructure. Of course, bridges are not normally sitting in salt water. Either way I'm not sure the comparison is very meaningful.

I've been using Python since the 2.3 days, and it's great to see it become so popular. But lately I think the language has grown more complex, new functionality is being added all the time. I feel this is unfortunate in some ways.
