it is true, but i think it's only of philosophical interests. for example, in a sense our physical laws are just human's attempt at compressing our universe. the text model used here probably isn't going to be "intellige

Power outage seems really odd. Don't datacenters usually have multiple redundant power supplies + on-site backup power generation? Maybe power "incident" mean something else?

synthetic data is fine if you can ground the model somehow. that's why the o1/o3's improvements are mostly in reasoning, maths, etc., because you can easily tell if the data is wrong or not.

> OpenAI’s next moat I don't think oai has any moat at all. If you look around, QwQ from Alibaba is already pushing o1-preview performances. I think oai is only ahead by 3~6 months at most.

Interesting. So does this mean "unlearning" is just the LLM learns to suppress unwanted knowledge instead of really forgetting them? And quantisation is breaking this learnt suppression.

> ... asks for confirmation the code change is copyright-free Don't you mean patent-free? Or maybe you are asking for copyright assignment? Not sure what "copyright-free" means... Like do you only accept public domain code

Why don't we take it to the extreme then? Just make the time the Sun rises 6am always. And make seconds longer or shorter to adjust.

It might work if nicotine wasn't addictive. And because it is, the rational actor hypothesis goes out of the window, and taxing it is just going to hurt poor people who are addicted to nicotine.

I feel I missed point of this article. I thought the author is trying to prove that b-tren isn't that bad compared to hashmaps. But taking 2~3x longer looks pretty bad. If I need predictable ordering (but not actually sorting the keys)

jmp.chat is great. besides this esim adapter, their main business - selling virtual phone numbers - is built entirely on top of open standards and open source softwares, which is definitely a rarity these days.

I don't like how much people tie success to the amount of money someone earns. (or how many views someone gets on YouTube, for that matter) There are many people who I consider successful that have never earned 700 mil, and there are p

Unlocking encrypted disk isn't I/O bound though. The key derivation step is designed to take a set amount of CPU time (say, a second), so it's difficult to brute force.

This not true nowadays when most "servers" are containers or VMs that are spun up on demand, and thus do need a fast (fraction of a second) boot time.
