Comments in this thread are fairly dismissive of the Ultra as a serious competitor for Garmin's high end sport watches, and this article seems like an example of it not stacking up. But if I was Garmin I'd be terrified of Apple co

Seems unlikely Dropbox would be immune from some sort of issue like this. Probably best to have your photos in storage somewhere else (ideally both locally and off-site).

I might not mind for the right price, but I'd like to at least know. Right now it seems that either (a) nobody is yet selling used mining cards or (b) everyone selling used mining cards is lying about it and trying to sell them at the

Where’s the best place to actually find these cards? When I see used cards on say Craigslist they always claim “never used for mining” or similar, is there a way to verify that kind of thing?

First of all, I think it's an unhealthy myth that if you like your job you should never want to take a break or vacation. That said, neither of these things are really vacation. A conference IS your job as an academic, it's a foru

Well the only alternative is “stop using cars” which I don’t see America agreeing to. I think we’ll have to pay.

"Make a ton of money and donate it all" is an impactful way to maximize good. It's also something that people almost never seem to execute, usually it ends with "make money and donate a small amount of it".

It's a bummer to see what I think is a good idea in theory be hated because the people who implemented it did such a bad job in practice. The idea of having a fast, easy, low emission and cheap way to get around short distances in a ci

I actually think the stock brokerages have done a similar thing -- it used to be that sophisticated and risky products like high leverage options were not available to retail traders who didn't have the money to lose, but with the rise

I'm surprised that this crowd in particular is so incensed by someone paying $125 bucks a month for their software. If anyone knows how much it costs to make good software and run a company that operates and maintains, I'd think i

Asking here is like asking a forum of mechanics who hate cars, can't believe that anyone likes cars at all, and if they had the chance would sell all their cars in an instant and instead buy a farm that raises chickens.

The scalability of deep nets has made amazing progress since I stated working with them. Even just 5 years ago it was a challenge to train on multi-GPU, and training ResNet would take 24 hours on a standard GPU in those days. Now it's
