For single node or small cluster deployments, one issue with k8s is the significant CPU and RAM usage even on a fully idle system with no payload. How is Nomad in that regard? Are the controllers also implemented as a control loop that is c

I’d be happy to know more about the single node use case. I considered Nomad in the past for this, but it seemed optimized for a cluster, and I ended up using Docker Swarm instead.

Poor article in my opinion. The problem described in the article is very true. But the solution, “focus on people”, is mostly tautologic and doesn’t explain at all what makes some projects successful and not others. I’m disappointed.

Why does the lambda container has to pull events from the lambda runtime using an HTTP GET request, instead of having the runtime push the events with an HTTP POST?

Erlang (the language, the runtime and the OTP framework) is a fascinating alternative in the design space for programming languages. Always happy to read about it, even if I don't use it for my projects.

I mostly use Go. But I've been keeping an eye on Rust because I like the language expressiveness, the safety provided by the stronger type system, the smoother integration with C calling conventions, the generics, the error handling. B

I work and live in Sweden since one year, but I don't speak Swedish. For that reason, the one thing I miss in Safari and Firefox is the Google Translate integration in Chrome, on macOS and iOS. A life saver, honestly.

Agreed about the template hierarchy being a bit weird, but the HTML template escaping is amazing. Much smarter and more secure than Jinja, etc.

Awesome release, as always. Kudos to the team. Anyone knows if the new B-Tree deduplication will solve the lack of "index skip scan" in PostgreSQL? https://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Loose_indexscan

MacBook’s touchpad is so good that I was not using the mouse anymore just a few weeks after having my first Mac. It happened naturally and at some point I just stopped connecting the mouse.

I like this hypothesis. This is exactly why I switched from C++ to Java, and from Python to Go, and why I’m using JavaScript in the browser. But it doesn’t fully explain why I switched from Java to Python: that was partly for the runtime, b

Disaster recovery is simpler with 1P (if you lose your computer and your phone). You just need your 1P credentials instead of your Dropbox credentials and KeePass secret key.

I'm currently using MacPass on macOS and KeePaasium on iOS, and syncing both through Dropbox. But that means I need my Dropbox credentials, in addition to the KeePass file secrets, if I lose both the Mac and the iPhone (after a fire or

Thanks for the advice! Makes sense. We are doing something similar (aggregate on single table and join later). But still looking a solution to compute aggregated increments when there are counter resets.

TimescaleDB and my team is using it, but one significant drawback compared to solutions like Prometheus are the limitations of continuous aggregations (basically no joins, no order by, no window functions). That’s a problem when you want to

You are underestimating the impact of that choice on language design. When Java was designed, garbage collection was one of the major features, and almost all languages with GC were either interpreted or using a VM. Static native binaries w
