There is not a lot of critics about the lack of ADTs because most people have never been exposed to them and don’t even know what they are and the concepts of product and sum types. Generics are much more common.

Great to see this point in the design space explored! Looking forward where it goes.

WireGuard is amazing, but I don't want one network interface per service. We have TCP/UDP ports for this.

Maybe, but the Go authors never banned people expressing disagreement or people forking the compiler or the tools. Almost all programming languages have features being asked by the community and not available as soon as one would hope. Modu

I read the post and I don't see the same behaviour in the Go community (the core team banning people who express disagreement or fork the compiler).

WireGuard fully supports IPv6. So I guess Tailscale should be able to support it too.

Great post! Can Tailscale be used to create a network between 10,000 IoT devices and a few servers? Is it scalable enough to support 10,000 peers on each node? Is it possible to script the registration of each IoT device to the control plan

Yes, I got this. But if your server is compromised, then the attacker can erase your backups, which ruins the point of doing backups in the first place. This is why there is an append-only mode.

Yes, but which server will run the purge command? It cannot be the same server as the one you are backuping, since one of the goal of the backup is to protect the server if it is compromised.

Reminds me of the military concept of "commander's intent". By knowing the broader purpose of a mission, subordinates are able to take initiatives if and when necessary.

I appreciate the design and marketing effort, but the split between golang.org and go.dev, and godoc.org and pkg.go.dev, is confusing. Newcomers may wonder what is the official website.

In response to this article, I was expecting insightful comments on the neural network itself and how to improve it, but instead I'm mostly reading funny attempts to play with the scoring :)

PostgreSQL is not a toy database either, and yet you can do: ALTER TABLE <tablename> DISABLE TRIGGER ALL Or: SET session_replication_role = 'replica'

Agreed. I think MySQL is still dragging the bad reputation it got in the early 2000s, which is unfair considering how much it improved. And I write that I someone that used to hate MySQL for all its shortcuts. I have one app in production b

Qualifying MySQL as a "toy" database in 2019 is obviously wrong. But I think most companies you mentioned don't use MySQL in the usual way, as they would use a "standard" enterprise database like Oracle, SQL Server

But SQLite provides an API to set memory usage limits [1] and doesn't use background operation as far as I know. I'm not sure about RocksDB (I think the "levels" compaction runs in the background by you can control it).
