Nope, perhaps in the future. But we open source all of the reusable components and backport loads of fixes back to the A-Frame, which is open source, which we spend a considerable amount of time maintaining.

Thanks for posting! networked-aframe is great, can't wait for it to continue to improve. We're the creators and maintainers of A-Frame and just went through the last YC batch as Supermedium ( https://news.ycombinator.com

Yeah, it's the latency in the Firefox browser on Vive. Not with A-Frame, but there's some delay communicating with the SDK and transferring that data specially on SteamVR.

Thanks! We created A-Frame and are now also building Supermedium (YC W18), a fully VR browser. If you're interested in RPO, we build an OASIS in a week (with A-Frame) featured on Supermedium: https://supermedium.com/blo

Hey, one of the A-Frame creators here. Looking past the markup, A-Frame is closer to a Unity-esque web framework (based on ECS) than a standard declarative file format. An ECS-based three.js framework that has some DOM flavor. Developing wi

I agree, that browsing the 2D Web in a VR headset is not very compelling, but I can see it being the first step for many companies to do. If you're interested, we've built/shipped a full 3D/VR browser as part of the YC W

Check out Supermedium, part of the last YC batch. We're doing exactly that. A full VR browser that runs on Web technology, but trying to seem indistinguishable from native VR. Worlds load in seconds, people publish via Web, access via

Don't have a video but: packed a bit in a green room backstage (a room with water and snacks), about 25 startups at a time, either muttering the pitches to ourselves or watching the startup on stage on a small TV. High-fiving and congr

It was overhyped, as with any new technology, but hardware always gets cheaper and better fast. Not close to mainstream right now, it's still very early adopter mode. But prices of Rift/Vive have about halved in the last year, and

Tweaking lighting technically is easy. To find the right values is a bit more subjective. A-Frame uses sort of phong with PBR capabilities, but the PBR pieces aren't used often. You can use different shaders, tweak the materials, bake

Yeah, document.querySelector('a-scene').scene provides you the three.js scene, you can dump whatever you want in there.

Actually, on the contrary, we prefer A-Frame be used as a framework over three.js, and not trying to abstract it. It's sort of a way to organize/encapsulate three.js code as a declarative ECS framework.

Nice article Josh! I'm one of the co-creators and current maintainers of A-Frame. Let me know if you have questions as well! We're currently part of the YC batch as Supermedium, we built an entire VR browser using A-Frame. http:&

If you are asking about YC program acceptance, then many, many startups are accepted pre-product, pre-prototype, sometimes even pre-idea. If you only have mockups, then there will be weight on your team background and history.

Can you read from memory? Speedrunners use programs that auto-split (detect when the runner has reached a certain stage of the game), I think by reading from memory.

Nice! We've been demoing this one at YC dinners a lot. People always enjoy this one. Always funny to see people's reactions when their origami floats away, and we need to teach them how to reset it.

Speaking to the Web side of Janus, they have a good platform of thousands of VR sites. The difference is that Janus is a content platform and tool on the Web, and Supermedium is a VR browser for that Web. They would fit together. You could

Yeah, I think so? Like parse the HTML and present it in a nice way in VR? That might be interesting for us to show VR content stand-in for non-VR sites (like Wikipedia) from our browser.
