Could you specify the things Palantir does that Tableu and other data analysis tools do not?

I'm not sure why that matters. You can knock on IBM's door with a pile of cash and they'll build your software system for you. I don't doubt that it's a smaller part of their business but it's still analogous t

They're in the data analysis business. Your government is in the mass surveillance business. If ICE fed the data into Tableau instead would that be any different?

SAP and IBM are both absolutely consulting firms, with the caveat that tech consulting means you're actually building solutions for your customers and not just telling them what they should build. I think the biggest confusion is that

I'd believe that under the Obama administration but it's a much tougher sell now.

Palantir is much closer to a consulting agency (think SAP or IBM) than anything like that.

Do you think it's a fair, balanced decision taking in a wide range of opinion or a reactionary one based on a few particularly loud naysayers? Past conference experience leads me to believe it's most likely the later.

But the author is talking about FizzBuzz. It's just a loop with an if/elseif/else statement. Both types of developers you reference should pass it handily.

The principle of least power still applies in the FE space. If you can get away with rudimentary technology, do it. The problem I find is usually misaligned incentives. When you go to BuzzFeed you just want to read an article, but BuzzFeed

Because the ultimate goal of the site is not to serve you news. If it was, it'd just be an FTP server or a CDN. The site exists to track you and sell advertising space, end of story.

Who's to say a 20 year old driving high is any more or less dangerous than an 80 year old geriatric? Drunk driving is definitively provable as dangerous, high driving is not.

I think it's the opposite. Sex, politics, and religion used to be verboten in any professional context. There's good reason for that: you're going to have to get along with people who believe different things than you do, and

How is that not a problem with GDPR? They passed a law which relies on technology which does not exist. There is no way to safely and reliably identify an individual electronically.

I think that's exactly the problem -- small/medium companies can't really afford to hire someone to do GDPR compliance (or at least, do it well). It's textbook regulatory capture.
