Thank you for that. Very interesting meta-search engine, clean results. It appears that Google is not among the engines they use. I like that they don't record your IP, and that they offer https access. Hard to say whether they really do wh

Anything on Google would be your papers and effects, I would think. The spirit of the law is to protect your privacy, and it's not the place of government to search your affairs just because new technology makes that possible and practical.

My guess is that after the ensuing anguish is over, and news companies have figured out how to charge for some of their content, this editorial would still have been outside the paywall.

When I searched for $HOME on google, the result page had this: "See results for: $home unix" Which leads to this: http://www.google.com/search?q=%24home+unix I.e. if you want a unix-related result, say unix.

Giving your password to anyone is a problem (and probably violates the TOS of the passworded site, do people and services think about that?), but it's not the problem being raised here. "If you give up your password just because a stranger

"Either that, or we're just hearing one side of the story." And likely that's all we'll ever hear. Ads are bad enough, but to be de-indexed, with no way to know why or how to fix it is scary from a business point of view. It could, and does

I wonder if a news site counts the visit as a "visit" for purposes of selling ads and eyeballs when you get a paywall poster on your visit, and you just click away rather than register?

I've noticed this recently about FT. My reaction is that when I notice a link is to FT I don't bother clicking it, because it's annoying to get the "register first" page, and that because I'm only going to close the page rather than registe

I never would have been aware of APL without being in software, and I'd never read anything on architecture or building before that. It was one of the most interesting books I've ever read, and it made a lot of sense. Yes, if I were buildin

Another reason not to eat ground-anything. One, it's harder to keep ground meat clean; you can't clean off the e-coli once it's been mixed in. Now we won't be able to tell whether we're eating real or synthesized sausage. I would be relucta
