I use a decade-old NUC with plenty of RAM as a daily driver. It doesn't struggle with anything except MS Teams. It can churn through Zoom or Meet calls while compiling code. Teams is a bloated mess that makes the fans spin at max RPM.

GCP plans offer access to high-end NVIDIA GPUs, as well as TPUs. I thought Google products use the same pool of resources that is also resold to customers?

In EU, there is a severe shortage of MDs. Part of the problem is that the number of students is not sufficient to satisfy MD demand. In some countries, this is a deliberate policy imposed by MD lobbies, who act like a cartel. In other coun

IMHO the main problem is the fact that lambda expressions have been deliberately crippled. Ruby is often described as a good-enough Lisp despite it is not homoiconic. That's because, like all modern Lisps, it makes pervasive use of blo

SFOS is sadly not well known in the US as its not sold there, which has definitely hurt popularity. Lack of VoLTE support for quite a long time didn't help either. Still, it's a great option I recommend to anyone who wants to esca

It is not easy to do this. A friend learned the hard way. She was visiting the US and needed a laptop. Their online shop doesn't take foreign cards, probably to prevent price arbitrage. Lots of Reddit posts confirm the problem. You can

Ideas stemming from Erlang and Mozart/Oz are indeed a big blind spot in most undergrad programs. Sadly, even in EU all this is becoming a niche topic, which is weird as today's applications are more concurrent and data-intensive t

That's a good suggestion. How are the cooling systems supplied with Minisforum in terms of noise and efficiency?

I use a NUC as a daily driver. The problem with NUCs is that cooling is suboptimal, the fan is small and thus noisy. It can be fixed with a third-party case, but that's at least €60-100 more for a much slower machine. Plus, you may voi

I use Linux, but I think the cheapest M4 Mini offers an incredible value and efficiency per €. With education discount, it's around €650, including VAT. It's pretty hard to find such a silent and powerful machine for that little.

AFAIK, memory bandwidth. M2 Ultra 800GB/s, whereas M4 Max is just 546GB/s. For example, local LLM inference has a big bottleneck on bandwidth. 50% extra is significant. I wish the Studio received an upgrade, with a new M4 Ultra po
