Nice piece of history, and hilariously/sweetly innocent/naive in its specificity and certainty, like only newbies' first "design document" could be.

I don't really understand smart contracts yet, but wouldn't it have been possible to implement the DAO in a way such that forks/cancellations could be "voted" on by the network somehow, versus requiring whatever thi

You're right that there will be a way higher number of reference points with varying degrees of awareness, but I'm pretty sure most kids know Stampycat, Evantube, etc..

Yeah, we (if you are 30ish plus or minus) probably had TV shows and cartoons as shared reference points - this generation will have which Youtubers they watched as those reference points.

If you have young kids, then there's a good chance you know how deeply Minecrafted has penetrated their worlds, replacing or augmenting Legos (or other, lesser, building toys) and video games in general. It's more than that they&#

Don't know. I worked in the industry when Quake, Unreal, and if I'm being generous, maybe RenderWare and LithTech, were the only real middleware options, and most people still just rolled their own engines. I ultimately burned out

Programming is a craft, game programming even more so. Passion runs high; people will work longer and harder for less money than at other jobs. The competition in the workplace and in the market is intense. Willful moderation can never be a

The question is utterly hyperbolic, that's why it's a straw man. Phrasing your answer in the form of a question does not magically grant rhetorical validity to your line of reasoning.

This has got to be the most pathetic strawman argument I've seen on HN in a long time. "BI doesn't work because it can't perfectly protect the most pathological outliers"? Ok. Did anyone say it would solve this scen
