Are you suggesting all racists are White rednecks? Racist systems are capable of absorbing contributions from all kinds of people. Whiteness has repeatedly expanded over time.

I don’t disagree with the characterization of ICE officers as racist thugs, but retaliatory violence is (1) still immoral and (2) self-defeating. You aren’t realistically going to overpower them, so any violent resistance just helps them DA

Will they though? Where does a privacy-conscious consumer turn? The only other serious option is Android, where Google will eagerly track all the things.

I really like a lot about Amazon. Friendly and creative people, good projects with high ambiguity and autonomy. The bad parts are the penny-pinching, careless and unaccountable senior leaders who just wants to exploit everyone and everyth

Defending all speech however deplorable would be consistent and defensible. The administration isn’t doing that. They are targeting speech they don’t like. Don’t speak out against our genocide in Gaza or be deported/expelled. Don’t sha

Seems like we should be solving this at the storage system layer, instead of per application?

Sure, on paper, but who will enforce it? He’s already attempted a coup. He has 4 years to prepare for the retry. He’s already putting loyalists into law enforcement and military spots. He’s immune to all lawsuits and has the congress cowed.

A deeply considered take: this is theoretically interesting but in practice matters very little. It’s like worrying about compiler bugs instead of semantic programming errors. If you are getting to the point where you have machine checked p

This is a very interesting point. In the era of AI, does it begin to break down? Like, if the AI systems can eventually generate piles of these materials without human victims, will it actually reduce the incentive for “real” CSAM?

How does it harm the children whose images it was trained on? Maybe if it substantially recreates the input images it is equivalent to plain copying and redistribution. Maybe it creates an economic incentive to abuse more children to create

It’s not a matter of good or bad, but a choice among alternatives? Nobody gets fired: learning opportunity for next time, but little direct incentive to improve. Fire someone: accountability theater (who is really responsible), loss of kn

One major critique: why do we think junior programmers really learn best from the grizzled veterans? AI coaches can give feedback on what someone is actually seeing and doing, and can be available 24x7. I suspect this can enable the juniors
