Haha. Always good to be corrected by the subject in question :) Thanks for the hard work in helping to get that project off the ground btw. As a language user and not an implementor, I sometimes feel bad that I use so much open source softw

For those that don't know, Audrey Tang was involved or wrote one of the early Perl6 VMs in Haskell iirc. I can't remember if it was Pugs or Parrot. The language still has Haskell roots.

One really nice thing about Linux is that Perl, Awk, and Python are installed on most versions and I can script without thinking about it.

I have mixed feelings on this one. The craft reported by pilots seems to be far beyond anything we're currently aware of as civilians. Of course we've had skunkworks programs before like the SR-71 and the Stealth Fighter that were

"And by intention or chance, this is exactly what happened." Funny how the author is hinting that they believe the exercise might have been intentionally setup to see how the systems could handle the UFO.

The comment is likely pointing out that the blockchain portion of this project is just for marketing and doesn't add much if anything to just having a database that people can pull from. I'm not sure if that is entirely true thoug

This author is a treasure. I've been planning on reading his book on Klong (array language like J, K, and APL) for awhile now. I absolutely love the minimalist website design which reminds me of Zork and old terminals.

I assume he means that the intermediate code allows for easier abstractions to support all those different processors instead of writing a specific machine code compiler for each one.

I haven't gone through all of your notes yet, but this would've been a godsend to go over in highschool before I started my EE classes in college. It was always obvious which students had been lucky enough to already cover the mat

You're not alone. The Math symbols are easy once you learn them (at least the subset I know), but it was challenging getting there. My field has a lot of dense math that makes the pyramids look simple (ok I exaggerate, but there is a l

Most on HN don't know about the TOPS program which pays for all Louisiana students to go to in-state public colleges (LA Tech, LSU, ULL, ULM...etc) tuition free if they meet some pretty basic requirements like 4 years of math and two y

Mine has a place where we can make suggestions, but unless it is a university library where people donate money (Ex: Texas A&M) it might not have a high chance.

I'm not as opinionated on Haskell, but APL is both a programming language AND executable math notation. It's just the notation is different than what most are already used to.

This is great, but I'd love to see more Mathy languages added like APL, Mathematica, and Matlab/Octave.

Yes and No. Every library is different. A university library may be better stocked, but my local library's computer section is mostly old books on outlook, Excel, and Photoshop. There are some coding books, but they're mostly old

That sounds better, but still pretty underpowered. I suppose if you wanted something high performance, you wouldn't want to use baremetal lisp anyway and this is more for fun and experimentation so a cheap and easier to understand proc

JavaScript is useful and pretty much the language to learn for web programming (frontend development) if that is your cup of tea (php is another option). If you're writing business applications, you'll want to know something like

I would guess that over half of their current customers use Mathematica for development and prototyping (but don't put anything into production). This would effectively mean that they would let go of ~50% of their revenue over night (w

Because Mathematica is the part that actually solves equations and does file parsing, genetic algorithms, 3D visualizations, blockchain...etc. It looks like you still need an expensive and closed source Mathematica license to go with the en

I think it is two things. The first is that everyone goes into the military for four years or something like that (Ex: Israel), so it is a shared cultural experience that everyone understands. Second, while some of those soldiers see confli
