I guess what you need is too find two sorting machines, with either different OCR or differently calibrated cameras. Then write two addresses, one of which each machine can read, neither of which exists (or perhaps a 3rd that exists?). Then

This is kind of an interesting quote from Gavin Andresen on the whole experiment thing: Gavin Andresen, the 46-year-old lead software developer for the Bitcoin project, is eager to find the answer. "I'm hoping to learn," he says, whether "a

Yea, it's interesting we kind of dumped Applets because they were a massive pain and now JS is trying to turn into the bytecode of the browser. Let's hope it works out better this time.

I don't know about the rest of the world, but it's still a lot worse than Google Maps in Japan. I'm sure it will come in time, but it's a difficult problem and one that google has a better handle on with it's background in "big data".

Your comment seems unduly negative. But, after reading the article it really does seem like a forced analogy. I suppose in some ways it's quite surprising that writing code is so much different than writing a novel. They are after all linea

I really don't understand why people are saying it's 20 bytes, the wikileaks cables are about 2mb, with a 100+ line python program. The latest issue is a long (at least 1000 lines) FAQ containing urls. I think part of the problem is that pe

err, yes it is just ASCII text. I suggest you run "strings" over the blockchain yourself, which I have done. If it wasn't I doubt anyone would find it. I don't know if they used Kaminsky's technique or something else but it is plain text.

Interesting the act of marking coins with messages is not new. In Ireland coins used to get marked with political messages from the UVF and others, I believe it was quite common for a time. http://www.cointalk.com/t195082/

This is actually a big issue for bitcoin, I don't think we should avoid it by saying it's the "standard bullshit". We also not really talking about small amounts of data (at least at the moment) a few megabytes is relatively significant...

The "encoding method" is ASCII text. The data can be extracted by running "strings *.dat" on the block chain on any UNIX system. After that you can grep through the output. This is not like XORing data, or as some people have said "everyth
