I think they just want, broadly, to divest from the American tech work force, whether that's via AI or outsourcing. If "the remaining employees just collapse" it's a data point in support of the thesis that developing so

A "private tracker" is basically a speakeasy for media piracy. It's BitTorrent, so it's peer-to-peer, but it's exclusive and secretive to avoid letting in surveillance bots that get everyone threatening letters from

FWIW, I think it's a blind spot to think of power users as "Arch Linux people" using "developer tooling". My wife is a UX Design consultant and she had an engagement where a bunch of state government accountants wer

I do think ROI is the best lens for trying to explain why something is priced at a substantial fraction of a million dollars.

The author seems in his blog posts to advocate for mass deportation of recent immigrants to Europe. This is an inflammatory enough position to make any of his output into a de facto political statement.

A University education is priced as though as it has near-term ROI. The government has subsidized it on the basis that it's opening an investment with strong near-term ROI to its citizens. I don't think you can claim that this ROI

The "npm-ness" of Cargo (centralized and standardized dependency management used at every opportunity) is generally pitched as one of the primary developer experience advantages over C++.

The application I work on has an extension API that only requires C++11, but we compile against all the same headers in C++20. Obviously we need ABI compatibility between the two standards for this to work.

Wow, their "high" threshold is 150 minutes / week. That's really not a lot, it's like 3 days / week of running a slow 10k.

Yeah, Instagram is by far the most reliable communications channel from my kid's school, believe it or not. Like, there are mailing lists and portals you can log into, but the IT aspect of actually getting access for even one parent, l

I have had the same work Windows box since 2019 and it has become agonizingly slow over the last 7 years. Anytime I look in Task Manager "Anti-malware Service Executable" is pegging at least one CPU core.
