I got back from a big conference in SF on March 28. Came down with a sore throat on the 30th. A huge percentage of the people I know who attended the conference plus two of my three kids in SF all came down with the same thing at the same t

I get all that. But keep in mind that nothing has ever been manufactured on the Moon. Nothing. I love the idea of using Lunar regolith to make stuff. But the first Moon bases will be shipped there. Just like the first space bases. Baby step

Actually, establishing any self sustaining space colony would do. No need to build it at the bottom of a gravity well.

Old person here. I was 13 in December 1972 when NASA talked abut a permanent colony on the Moon by 1984. That drove me to graduate college with a BS in aerospace engineering. I attended one of the top three universities for aerospace. In or

This. I used to work in automotive engineering. I marveled at the lack of security around drawings for mechanical components. Ford, GM, and Chrysler all used the same design shops to create blueprints. When I went to get the latest drawing

Put me in the No Way! column. NASA budget for exploration including SLS is about $3.5 billion. The Apollo mission cost $145 billion. Just not going to happen. Best guess: double budget to $7 billion and spend that much every year for 20 ye

But at what cost? WashPo, NYT, Bloomberg, even Medium!, are paywalled to the point of exclusion of the vast potential audience they could have. Axios,NPR, BBC, and The Guardian, have not succumbed yet. I hope they do not.

The first person I ever fired was a jerk to customers on the phone. He was truly brilliant. We are friends now and he is super successful as a consultant doing mostly data stuff. You will eventually find a place that fits who you are. That

Met someone who used to be in the printing business. Cars and stationary back when that was a thing. Now he just sells thermal paper for Point of Sale terminals. He says he is doing better than he ever has.

While I am by no means "famous" in the sense of Paul Graham famous, this essay is spot on. I had a coterie of haters when I was getting started on my own. I would post a blog and they would counter with their own blog making fun o

Love this. I used to go to this giant book fair in West Bloomfield, Michigan (USA). I marveled at how many books there were that, at first glance, were horribly written. Yet, I could always find a handful of truly great books. A book can b

The author correctly sites construction as an example of how waterfall may have originated. But it was all of engineering that worked that way. It's called project management. I was an automotive engineer when I graduated in '82.
