Think Electrician instead of Electrical Engineer. EEs build the motor and the battery controller. Electrician level skills can arrange the parts within their specifications.

This was my thought as well. Regarding modularity, batteries seem to be the easiest to deal with. I was always impressed with Tesla’s idea of laptop batteries, it essentially has not changed much. Lots of little batteries.

Ah, I was using public in the sense of a publicly traded corporation. Meaning, the public has access to ownership and that the corporation cannot decide who gets to own shares.
