I want to add one more thought here though: the one language that I will evangelize as long as I live, the one that will outlast them all is SQL - and credit where due, CF had a fantastic relationship with SQL, much better than many other c

I wrote CFML for the better part of two decades, only getting away from it in the past couple years. I started back with 4.5 when I found it on a shelf at the publishing company I worked for in high school - a former employee had won it in

I want to read the paper further, but I have done similar things in the past using JSONB. Multiple CTEs to pull the individual parts, convert to JSON and then combine into objects keys of arrays.

I can't wait for this. Just getting out a great AST would be amazing for things like formatters, but I want to build things like a library that knows everywhere you use a table in a particular way or reference a column, or linting that

Yes, I think I agree if I am understanding correctly - the test is not a good fit for how it works, because it "wants" to weigh things based on surrounding context and to give a lower weight to things that it feels are out of plac

Lots of comments about it barely beating GPT-4 despite the latter being out for a while, but personally ill be happy to have another alternative, if nothing else for the competition. But I really dislike these pre-availability announcements

A few thoughts: cheaper GPT-4 will only extend their lead. The biggest thing holding us back right now is not being able to get open-ai hosted in AWS with the rest of our stack. And I cant wait to see more tools built on top of these LLM to

I also have conflicting opinions on this, but the usual reasoning is more about deterrence than revenge. We want others who might try these things to see that they can and do get punished.

Its just so strange to me that they can release some of the most powerful and efficient hardware we have ever seen, and show it off by telling us we can now (checks notes…) check off tasks in a widget on our desktop.

I wrote AS3 and mxml for adobe flex for several years. AS3 was in many ways ecmascript 4, and was IMO pretty far ahead of its time. Lots of things we get excited for today feels like stuff we took for granted on the web in the flash player
