It can't prove it any better than than anything else can bridge the is-ought gap. I agree that markets can't exist without money, but I think historical evidence suggests that they will create money in order to exist. Almost ever

Money is an emergent phenomenon of markets, and it has nothing to do with libertarians. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coincidence_of_wants

I'm in the southeast. 24, self-taught, no degree (I was able to make it through Triplebyte, though I'm not persuaded that actually means anything). 2009-2015 IT/helpdesk/sysadmin, and 2015-2017 more dev/devops, all

A GUI with a 1-1 mapping to command line arguments sounds like heaven. Of course this exists for something like GVim, but I had no idea commercial software of any kind was doing it. That makes scriptability possible!

I agree with you that it should be implemented better, though I've honestly come to expect this from Windows. It's just a bit extreme considering you submitted it to HN, where the people directly involved actually have a chance of

It becomes slightly more work if you depend on AUR packages (especially if you end up maintaining the packages you depend on!), but overall I think it's a great daily-driver system.

Yeah service to Williamsburg is still dicey. You can be a sardine on the L, or if you're close enough to the JMZ, you'd better not have to ride back after 8pm (one or more of the trains may not be running).

Ubuntu on WSL lets you run sshd. You can get to your Windows file system at /mnt/c/.

As far as I know, WSL is "Ubuntu on Windows", so wouldn't this be a conflict of interest? Maybe they would simply work out a deal to pay a royalty to Canonical or something. Wouldn't that be poetic. I think it would be

I only see value for Windows as a desktop OS, and I think the intent of WSL is improving the dev experience on Windows. If you need a high quality Linux server, why not just run Linux?

And you just (mostly) summarized it with a single sentence. The fact that such a screed was written at all is a problem. These kinds of arguments require very precise language in order to minimize misunderstandings and deflections.

This was exactly my impression of LA when I visited for the first time last month. A city that peaked 50+ years ago (though, to be fair, that can be said about many American cities).

Man, this brings back some middle school memories of back when my biggest USB drive was 128MB and I was playing with Linux live images for the first time. Sad to see why and how the project died.

My point was that I don't see the sense in the strategy laid out by grandparent, because I don't see a compelling reason to run Windows on servers (I say this as a former Windows sysadmin (as recently as this year, not 2005)).
