Great point! It wasn't long ago that Google was bidding on spectrum and battling net neutrality to ensure easy and unfettered access to the Internet and its online properties. The Telcos/cable companies/ISP's are just another gateway that

It's too bad there couldn't be just one version of Windows 7 that is configurable instead of the "Home Premium", "Business" and "Ultimate" options. I know this has been debated quite a bit before when Vista was released, but I was hoping M

Although the article didn't cover any specifics of the language, I think PHP has definitely improved. For what it lacks in elegance, it makes up in ease of deployment and scalability. Overall, the improvements made to PHP over the past fe

The increase in development for memcached is a good thing since it's a relatively easy and less expensive way to scale. As mentioned in the article, relational databases will be around for a while and were never designed for the kind of sc

Sounds interesting. But how does it add much more value than a website shortcut link on your desktop? Also, doesn't Windows XP have a "Links" toolbar option to access favorites from the toolbar?

I find it interesting that there are Twitter users that actually code in Cobol. Also, PHP is not even on the list :) I would think that coding in PHP with a good framework like KohanaPHP or CodeIgniter, much more fun than writing in Cobol

Very true. Certain AP classes, such as History, English and other AP courses that fill in elective credits should be fine for most. However, if you plan on majoring in a subject area that requires in-depth knowledge of specific material (

I think the increase in AP exams comes down to basic economics. If each test only cost $86 these days and is the equivalent of 3-4 college credits (depending on the course), passing just one exam is a great savings to the student in both m

Colleges should be investing more in the open source Sakai project. Which has already produced an extremely functional and completely open learning management system. Sakai is by higher-ed for higher-ed.

As stated a few places. I think this may work well for students that need to carry around many large/heavy textbooks. Since it would still fit nicely in a book bag. However, the price tag is a bit high for students, unless the textbooks

Given Apple's previous experiences with online services such as .Mac and MobileMe, one has to wonder why Apple shareholders would consider this a wise investment. One possibility is that this would contribute towards Apple's latest moves to

I've been trying to reduce the number of divs by attaching the span-x classes onto other block level elements like <ul> whenever possible. But layouts seem to work better with more divs.

I typically use ORM for most models. But create custom DB methods within the model for more complicated queries. Having the standard DB library methods available within an ORM model makes Kohana very flexible.
