And the vast majority of Oakland is fine. I used an extreme example to demonstrate that the idea that Oakland has worse crime issues than SF is highly dependent on where you happen to be. Oakland is just physically huge, suggesting it has a

Oakland is a big place. It varies by neighborhood same as San Francisco. Most is fine, certainly no worse than the Tenderloin.

Sure, but the store that accepted the invalid credit card has traditionally been on the hook. The store is the one being targeted even if the person whose credit card was stolen can get off with disputing the charge. And before everything w

Oh, I think they are talking about the earlier period where you just did a carbon copy of the card, got it signed, and if the card was a fake there was certainly no way to tell at the time. It would be the equivalent of a bad check, talking

My read was closer to what the article stated at the end -- the issue is that it is written for a tech geek audience when the real audience should have been judges and lawyers. So being vague and flippant was why they were foolish, not in s

Although at these scales, a CCP at 400MW output is "only" ~$300M, so building that small power station might not be that big a deal compared with the cost of turning off?

Apologies, I truly intended "out of stock" rather than "obsoleted" and agree 100% that there is a big difference.

I meant the parts that are not common enough to have pin-compatible substitutes from multiple vendors. I have worked with people way above hobbyist level and it is those obnoxious non-standard parts that are the ones that suddenly go out of

I appreciate it, but still apologize for being flippant. I did intend the comment to be about the dog washing startup that I assumed to be a fairly small business. Not buying the (presumed to be in the 10,000 quantity range) MCUs they neede

I agree and have experienced that too. Even without obsoleted parts, stuff will be impossible to find all the sudden, particularly specialty components. Heck, I've had vendors who simply had fabs that caught fire... but I always have a

I don't doubt it, in the article the dog washing company specifically said that their design firm already had a solution that just required new PCBs. That is not sympathetic, that's very normal. What you're describing is symp

This is super deceptive. If you had actually needed to pay $1.1M in principal even at 0% interest over 30 years you'd be paying $2777 a month. Your comment comes across as basically suggesting it is other people's fault for not bu
