I am working on a typeface — Berkeley Mono. It started taking shape conceptually 5 years ago, but really started putting effort into it after the pandemic. It is such an intense pleasure to work on typefaces, and if I could, I would do this

I did it both ways. I was working in semiconductor industry as a Mech Eng for 8 years, slowly drifted towards software in my own time and at work. Switched to Software engineering officially at a quantum computing startup, built Fab softwar

This is great feedback for typographers. Font Spring's[1] license is pretty nice. I just finished the first draft of license[2] for the upcoming Berkeley Mono typeface. Basically, we want people to enjoy using the typeface with zero wo

I enjoyed the book very much, later found this review [1] that highlights some issues with it. I've updated the article with a link to the review. https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R10ZINB4B9O5I3

I was involved in writing software for a small Fab and there is a big gap in the MES software space. If you want to start a new Fab, you need a manufacturing execution system (MES) to process wafers. This whole MES industry is ripe for inn

I am thinking for sale, after one year make it open source? Another option is to make it free for personal use, and paid for commercial use. Font licensing is too complicated and I want to simplify it just as if I were to purchase the font

Unlikely. Explicitness and the binding between the code you see with the eyes and the keys on the keyboard shouldn’t be violated IMHO. Ligatures add ambiguity (“what’s this symbol? Which keys were pressed to create it?”), great for manuscri

Thanks for the feedback. Double-storey ‘a’ does make things busy. I’ll see what I can do with optional single storey ‘a’ as a stylistic set. The problem with stylistic sets is no one uses them and they’re not well supported in programming t

I've been working on a new typeface[1][2] for code - Berkeley Mono. I've taken some inspiration from Jet Brains Mono, SF Mono, Bit Stream Vera, Andale Mono, OCR-B, Univers, Eurostile and Monogramma from the 50's, and weird th

I still have some time to test - let me try this out! One thing I already proved is with 2GB ram, the system performs as predicted ~20 GB/s. But, I resonate with your definition of benchmarking - to test utlimate performance but also r

Interesting. I turned off lz4 compression and it didn't make any difference - still getting around 80 GB/s on a 30 second test. I also checked the content of the dummy file, it is random and takes about the same time as using `dd`

I am not sure, I think some of it is cached in the RAM. I did a longer sustained test and I am getting about 70 GB/s with a 200GB file - this is definitely larger than 64GB RAM. Is it to do with lz4 compression? Fetching smaller blocks

They spoke with great clarity and enunciation for sure. No filler words. I suspect, it also has to do with how audio was recorded, processed and mastered. It’s got that warm fidelity as if it went through a low pass filter.
