As a ME, I used to manage a lab in a large corporation. McMasterCarr is ingrained in the US engineering culture. Every lab has a 5 inch thick yellow catalog. Also Thorlabs. Everytime I'd open their shipment, it'd include Lab Snack

This is true, visual search has a optima when the contrast of the object in the search field is above certain threshold. Below that magic threshold, it is useless (for e.g searching for a Jigsaw puzzle piece). But, when visual search works,

Yep. I wonder, if the balance has gone too far without any checks or balances? A/B testing our way into oblivion. May be, we should do a massive A/B test between 15 year old UI and today's UI. They'd probably have to mod

I can totally attest. I worked on a typeface (Berkeley Mono [1]) for better half a decade. Have 1 variable axis (wght) and only 4 fixed cuts, approx 450 glyphs. It’s one of those things that I can only continue to work on because of an inte

There seems to be some misfiring because rate of likes isn't high (~1 like in 100 impressions), but based on the people that like the promoted post it is 100% without exception accurate. So, at the least, it is reaching the right peopl

I gave a try to Twitter's Ad platform recently. Mother of god, they've built a giant machine behind the curtains. It has terrible UX, but I could, if I wanted to, target a U.S. Military retiree that likes creole food, located in B

We think alike. I am building a UI framework that goes against the grain of basically all contemporary design. It will echo the Berkeley Graphics philosophy: Emergent over prescribed aesthetics. Expose state and inner workings. Dens

We've been working on a condensed version, it has been almost complete (all 440+ glyphs) since last year but it has a few wrinkles that need to be ironed out. This will also enable a Width ('wdth') axis on variable fonts so i

Yes, done by hand, a lot of elbow grease. Same with the animation which took an insane amount of time (700 frames). Shout out to MonoDraw (Berkeley Mono works wonderfully with it): https://monodraw.helftone.com/

Print licensing is very standard and used by the majority of the font fountries with exception of Lineto and a few others. For example, buy 1 seat (1 designer) and that designer can make unlimited print products as long as they have the sea

Thanks and good feedback, beta testing was done in a similar way - font cut with a few missing glyphs and was limited to ASCII-basic set. I'll see if I can extend this more generally.
