Also the picker is broken on iOS. If the bottom navigation bar is hidden the backdrop doesn‘t cover the whole page, which is ugly. More ugly then just a standard select element. Selecting by swiping over the elements doesn‘t work. And somet

Oh the combobox element in the WAI ARIA is interesting. On mobile the dropdown can‘t be scrolled without scrolling the page (and the user losing where they were in the form). Also the tap targets are smaller. And there even is a combobox in

Have you ever seen a designer define all the different states with all the different input methods for a select element?

Yes it really is. And now imagine someone would instead use a custom multi-select, because their browser has a bad implementation. Actually the best example why custom form elements shouldn‘t be used. You can still write one as an add-on fo

Last time I had to download an airline app was at an airport via the public wifi. You better make it small if your users are people that might be on the road in a foreign country.

If you aren’t close to your career end don’t even plan for a target. Do what you are currently doing, but always end something out of your comfort zone. Maybe something much more technical, or teaching other people, or planning a bigger pro

Yes MacOS and Cocoa is just Nextstep. Not only are the classes called NSSomething, but there is a presentation from early 90ies of the dev environment by Steve Jobs and the Interface Builder etc look very similar to Xcode.

When I was in school we were trying to improve the IT, but as we "knew too much" and prefered Linux over Netware we weren't trusted. Also everything was run by the teachers, we didn't help either. Each summer they "

I‘m a cyclist in an European city and in groups about making traffic better and safer for everyone. But the ads I get are all about cars, like you can only get around with a car, while that‘s the thing we are trying to fight. And this is no

CDNs (can) do a bit more than just serving static files faster. For Javascript they can change the build for different group of browsers, sending less bytes to transmit parse. You could do that yourself, but learning build tools and using t

The takeaway of the article shouldn’t be that no plastic can be recycled. PET does get recycled into new bottles, bags etc. And it’s fully correct, that new plastic is cheaper. Only if trashing old plastic is cheap, which it isn’t, because

One big issue is Google ignoring good free data sources. In Vienna all cycle lanes are available as ODG data. The license is very liberal, just mention the source. Instead Google Maps shows old and wrong cycle lanes.

Why wouldn‘t you just push/append to the end of the array with '$arr[]'? There is no need for explicit keys in PHP. The gotcha is writing code in PHP pretending you are using a different language.

Actually you need people in the city to not depend on cars. Public transport, cycle lanes and a reason to stay in the city centre like good restaurants, cafes, some festivals. Just closing a street to cars might just make everyone drive aro

Just make the cars slower and this problem is solved. 20mph in cities is safer for everyone, doesn‘t take longer to drive and allows sharing the road.

So you would be okay to sell bread and water in exchance for a first born? Or would it be better to have some basic rules, like privacy, and every business has to follow these rules?

Actually the UX is just mirroring the privacy handling of the page you visit. As we now see most pages just want to track everything about you and sell it to any 3rd party. This was bad before, but now you see it.

Even better if you don‘t wait until you feel ill. Doesn‘t even have to feel like doing sport. Bike to the supermarket, talk the bus and walk more. Going everywhere by car is bad for the body and your mood.
