The reason the build times on level 3 were so bad was due to time spent downloading libraries. Stripe seems to have set things up to use a different ivy cache for each user, so every time you deployed code it had to redownload all of the de

To be clear, I find the emails very useful (this is primarily from the perspective of me using Github for work--it's nice to know when somebody has reviewed your code). But I want one, not 15, and after the code reviewer has finished.

This looks nice, but doesn't address my main complaint with the conversation/PR system: there's no way to batch comments. When doing code reviews, you can sometimes have upwards of 10 or 15 comments. In the current system thi

They do combine those behaviors. The proxying is on for everybody, regardless of whether you disable showing images automatically.

"Disabling the new functionality" refers to maintaing the old behavior of hiding images by default. This means that you're leaking nothing unless you explicitly decide to. This does not appear to disable the proxying, though,

There seems to be a lot of misinformation flying around. Here's [0] Google's support doc that clears up some of it. The most important part is at the end: "In some cases, senders may be able to know whether an individual has

Energy is so volatile that it makes little sense to count it in measures of inflation. When oil prices double in a year, is that really because USD became less valuable? There are certainly a number of methodologies for calculating inflatio

Gold has intrinsic value for applications like jewelry and electronics (it being easily malleable and a very good conductor). There are many more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold#Applications . These uses don

This is great. Online shopping is so much less convenient because I can't have packages delivered to my apartment. Instead I must ship packages to my office, and either muscle them on MUNI or get a cab (which costs more than $7).

Basically, Hive is incredibly inefficient. Hive works by taking apart the HiveQL query and turning it into a series of Hadoop MR steps. A complex hive query may have many such steps, and for each one data must be read from HDFS, processed,

The state of the art at Google appears to be F1 [0], although that takes a pretty different approach than Presto/Dremel and may be complementary. This area (interactive SQL on big data) has become very active lately. In addition to tho

I can personally vouch for the value of Scala macros, which I feel really transform the language. With macros (at least with macro-paradise) I can metaprogram Scala more powerfully than Ruby, while retaining typesafety . Scala + macros is

There's a small misconception in the article: the overhead of zookeeper is not the reason why you tend to have small zookeeper clusters (3, 5, or 7 are recommended). The issue is that zookeeper requires consensus, so a write generally
