People often bring up this objection, but I don't want a complete history—I want an easy-to-understand history. If I make a variable in commit A and think of a better name for it in commit C, why wouldn't I use rebase to squash C

No, of course you can be distracted operating the infotainment systems in your car, but directly manipulating your phone is much worse.

It seems like CarPlay an Android Auto should work against this trend. Maybe cars with those features aren't entering the pool fast enough to overcome how much our attention on our phones is growing?

Excel is the software development environment for the programming lay person. I don't mean that pejoratively; it does an incredibly good job. But introducing more rigor seems like it will mostly just reduce its effectiveness in that ro

By far the best summary I've seen. Most of this is just summarizing Apple's plan (there's a lot to summarize) but Gruber is incise as ever for the bits of commentary sprinkled about. My favorite example is the last paragraph:

I am aware that Haml and Pug call themselves template languages, but they are not. In a template language, the source is a "template" that has some special syntax to fill in some bits. I don't think that's a very idiosyn

My personal philosophy is that string interpolation should not be used to generate machine-readable code, and template languages are just fancy string interpolation. We've all seen the consequences of SQL injection and cross-site scrip

I agree that this shouldn't be anywhere near the top of people's privacy concern list. A $1 traditional digital camera can already be hidden very easily and this probably costs thousands of dollars at least if you could even get i

It's probably best to name political ideologies for the ideal they believe in rather than whatever criticism their opponents hold for those ideas. Conservatives want to conserve the status quo. Progressives want to see society progress

Solar farms have made it much cheaper to expand electricity production, but the point of this article is still true: efficiency gains in data centers have a compounding effect.

According to my casual Googling, metal lathes start out a lot more expensive than 3d printers. Wood lathes and CNC machines are surprisingly affordable though. So this seems like a good question.

I have the 13 mini and I love it. Last year was the first year in a long time that I didn't upgrade because I didn't want a huge phone. I haven't decided what I am going to do this year yet.

JSON at least I pretty much never see being generated from templates. In the few cases where someone I worked with suggested it I've easily argued them away from it. The difference between JSON and HTML in this regard is illustrative.
