New cases isn't a good metric because of how testing can change. Deaths is more reliable metric to be used when prevalence is high, as it is in Italy and now the US.

It does indeed, or what we are seeing in New York. I'm very skeptical of this, though it would of course be great news if it was true. I can't help but have whiplash from the fact that the UK seems to have gone from an attitude of

I'm an epidemiologist and I think excessive testing doesn't help people, so it is definitely not just doctors. False positives can do real harm, including killing people if it leads to unnecessary treatment like surgery. You need

I was one of those people discouraging masks a while back here. I was wrong. With what we know now asymptomatic people should have masks if there is a supply available. At the present, that supply isn't available in the US and many oth

I was more thinking something like the National Flood Insurance program. Corporate taxes would be similar if the airlines and other bailoutable industries had to pay a higher rate to compensate, but right now they don't.

I don't see any reason that a firm like Theranos shouldn't have had all of it's patents struck down as void once it was obvious it was a scam. What incentive do we have as a society to allow con artists to patent things and i
