An amazing thing about git (and other DVCSs as well) is that even if a much more serious catastrophe had happened (e.g., if a nuclear bomb had struck the KDE datacenter), it would probably still be possible to reconstruct (an approximation

Awesome. Too bad the Swank protocol is very much CL-centric and this probably has to be heavily hacked around. I'm now waiting until someone writes an nREPL backend for JS.

Has anybody made a gallery of real implementations of Randall Munroe's hilarious ideas yet? I recall at least three exhibitions: this, M-x butterfly, and Hell Tetris; there are probably many others.

There once was a guy who, at the age of 24, wrote a short text moaning about how he seemed to have been accomplishing little in his life, and how his peers were having a better start. His name was John Milton. That text was Sonnet VII, "How

Especially with the C++ change, GCC seems to be on the verge of crashing in under its own weight. I have the feeling that clang or something else, something simpler, will eventually prevail.

The aesthetically pleasing effect of a good font is very much subconscious. Just typeset the same short text in Comic Sans and, say, Zapfino, and ask people which one they prefer. (Not that Zapfino would be a good choice for Vatican's origi

This can go on indefinitely, recursively. The story behind this sentence is of two students comparing their texts, the one with "had" (version 1), the other with "had had" version 1, yielding 11 "had"s in a row. Call that story S_0. Now ima

When perusing early Unix code, it's striking how concise and down-to-the-point it is. We've really accumulated a lot of cruft (mostly for the sake of compatibility and feeping creaturism) over the years.

Awesome! I was actually thinking of something like this but have two left hands when it comes to electronics. This one is an attempt to mimic the on-stop display with no distractions and supporting multiple stops. A 15-minute hack, really.
