Good reply to the original comment: > Do you have a big sign on your head that says "CONTAINS BIGOTRY. DO NOT APPROACH THIS PERSON IF BIGOTRY OFFENDS YOU."?

They're hardly separate things at this point, @autoreleasepool? The new @[] and @{} constructors for NSArray and NSDictionary? ARC enforces retain/release/autorelease, which are NSObject protocol methods. NSString isn't "part of" Objective-

Not really a good comparison. A TV costs $1000 or so (for one that isn't bad). Then it costs about $50 a month to even be useful, plus whatever HBO costs to get a good amount of shows that aren't bad. Even then, the picture quality is worse

Well, they're good for the same reason that hex/Torx is, and I think most people have a set or two of those.

I don't like the "tools" analogy that always comes up. For example, Robertson screws are better than Phillips head screws, which in turn are better than flatheads. All of them are tools, and they all effectively do the same thing. But the R

I think it's hard to give answers that are both accurate and concise to some of these questions, without appending "in language ______" to them. In some languages, access control is a compiler feature and is actually strictly enforced. Obje

The correct way to do that would have been to just release it without patenting it, no? He was the first one to do it, so his prior art would invalidate any future patents, and we'd all be free to use it without any fear.

Unlimited copyright terms are eroding the basis of society (the Constitution). 5 to 10 years would be reasonable.

My only complaint would be how hacked on Core Animation is in comparison with UIKit. For example, WebView doesn't like having a layer, but this isn't mentioned anywhere in the documentation: http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#document

The layer stack system is getting really tired. Here's what I'd like to see: - Node-based layer system, like Quartz Composer and Max/MSP. Right now, any complex nesting of layer styles has to be done via Smart Objects, which is a terrible h

I'd be surprised if young people wanted to live downtown anyways, not much happens there. I live in Williamsburg and ride the subway for about 20 minutes. Not really a big deal, and much better than any commute involving owning a car.

I'm not sure why this was downvoted. It's entirely true. Think about button sizes. The iOS UI widgets are a specific physical size, optimized for the average human hand, which is then translated into pixels. Because all iOS devices have t
