Thanks, good find! So, if @pirtlj said that in response to Linus's first comment, then he was way out of line, and something should have been said. Maybe Linus didn't say the exact right thing, but I doubt I would have been able to say much

If I could downvote you, I would. Seeing quote mining that bad on HN makes me sad. Or your english comprehension isn't that good, which is fine if it's not your first language, but still sad if it's your first.

I don't see why you think git's approach to history is flawed. If changes to separate areas are kept separate, how can anyone coordinate on a single set of changes? What if 1 patch does't affect an area, but depends on it staying the same?

I see that git has been updated to 'pass' the indent-block test, because it produces the correct output, but the resulting indentation is not correct. I have git.mergetool set to bc3 (Beyond Compare 3), so I tried running 'git mergetool' fo

Try Beyond Compare (I'm not affiliated, just a longtime customer). I just went through each test case and had no problems. Resolving one of the standard conflicts involved using 'align with <F7>' to separate the changes at the end o

Makes me a bit worried for pinboard.io. It's not free, which puts it in a better position than its competition, IMO, but it's a 1 time only payment. I hear they're profitable now, though, and have vowed to not go away like delicious did.

Exactly. After looking at the results of some generic terms (netbook, ultrabook), they're really not equipped for general-purpose feature comparison. But when you narrow it down to a specific model, it seems like it would help you avoid rip

I think we are saying similar things, but I'm getting the sense that you don't think there is a single unified theory to be found (not simply that humans are incapable of understanding it). Do you have a particular reason for thinking this?

I don't see that as an accurate description of how Penrose is thinking about the problem (disclaimer: I've only read this interview, and not any of his books). I think he's saying that 1. Everything about QM other than its extremely accurat

That is what aidenn0 seems to be talking about, but that's not what Penrose is talking about. Penrose is very clear that the predictions of QM are extremely accurate. His contention is that the implications of QM cannot be true (that there

Sounds like #2 could work if you had some sort of desktop notification system. Then you could write a small script that runs your command line with stdout and stderr redirected to temp file(s), and then alerts you when the process is done,

You gave a very simple example. Lets say the contract is to build widgets that frobulate. What if nobody has ever made widgets that frobulate? What if frobulating is poorly defined in the process, and what it means to frobulate changes over
