Most people will just click yes or no to get past this screen. Better to ask "What iPad device are you using?" With options (with pictures?) of "iPad Mini" and "iPad 1/2/3"

I didn't downvote because I disagreed (or agreed), but because your question seemed very accusatory and asked in bad faith, so it does not contribute to the discussion. A reworded question that made it clear you were honestly inquiring stil

From the blog post and main screen, I have no idea what this service is selling. Is it promising to aggregate blogs/tweets/FB posts of a certain topic and deliver them to you on a weekly basis? Is it promising to prompt you weekly along the

I first saw the term middlebrow in that thread, and I'm still not sure how i feel about the term, but "lowbrow" refers to completely non-intellectual things, and would not appeal at all to someone that values intellectual thinking. I hadn't

What's strange is that the study reveals exactly these different use cases for bookmarks, but doesn't propose a real solution. I currently have well over 100 things in Pocket, and even more in Pinboard, and many different tab groups open in

To address questions 2-4, it's a space-filling curve [1], or basically an easy way to take a line and fill a 2D space. So when a single name is added to a namespace at the beginning of the curve, that blob gets bigger, and every other blob

I think ardent feminists are focused on making realistic changes to reality, i.e. working with the reality that we have a great diversity of sexual identities, gender identities, and gender roles, rather than try to fight against it. Fair t

I'm struggling with the idea that you don't think these recent examples are 'actual' racism/sexism. I'd like to think that you're characterizing the people who see the situation as 'risk free' but the more I read your comment, the more I th

To be sure, this is not a good outcome, but improper orbit insertion is a serious risk on every rocket launch, whether or not it's SpaceX and whether or not you're the primary payload. I'm glad to see that all parties involved realized this

If you feel that you are qualified to say it is a very concerning component failure based on the scant evidence available, then that's up to you.

First of all, this launch was not a failure, full stop. I don't know what your background in statistics is, but I'm impressed that you're able to deduce the details of a such a complicated, stochastic process, from only 8 observations, and

I doubt that. If a software startup designed and built a distributed system that would automatically detect and recover from hardware faults (see: every 'design for failure' post ever), would you say that the hardware faults were due to ine

No, it's just for easier data retrieval with e.g. selfstats.py. It has a -T option that filters by window title, if I understand the docs correctly.

Hmm...does that mean that dating sites might be able to improve the user experience of 'fit' users by banning/hellbanning the 'unfit' users? Maybe that's what OKCupid is doing with the whole "Congrats! You're attractive" feature.

No, according to this theory, it is because Deep Blue has a completely alien mind, and of the nigh-impossible to count ways in which that alien mind could work, it behaved in one of the many ways that Kasparov failed to consider. Now, it
