Agreed. I work in the south bay, so I usually can't make it back to the city until at least 7:30.

Interesting. I guess I had always assumed YC was really aimed at more software startups, I'll take a closer look.

This is a fantastic example of attention to detail. One of many reasons that all of Omni's products are such high quality.

Looks really interesting! The one thing I was missing, coming from an objective-c background, is named parameters in method calls. Definitely one of my favorite parts of objective-c. Any thoughts on adding anything like that?

Perhaps "news" is the wrong term to use then? In my mind, news if referring to an event that has occurred (even if that event is the stating of someone's opinion) Maybe "article" is a better term, or even "essay". Someone chooses a topic, p

If I'm understanding you correctly, how is this different from something like reddit or digg? You can read the discussion on reddit before reading the actual news. Unless I'm misunderstanding.

Any recommendations for good objective-C code?

This looks fantastic. This could actually work well with a project I've had floating around in my head for a while.... I better get going on it!

Well, do you know the basics? HTML and CSS? Pretty much all the custom buttons, menus, etc you see are just clever HTML and CSS, with some well placed images. Are you asking how to design a button in, say, a graphics program? Or are you ask

I saw this yesterday. It certainly seems official. I've got no idea how to get it booted in virtualbox though.

Personally, I'd avoid both areas for the reasons you stated. The homeless/gutterpunks/tourists in Haight get pretty annoying, and there really is no neighborhood feel in SOMA. In SOMA, people are there to work, or to network, or because it'

Depends on which part of Bluxome. Basically for SOMA, you'll want to be east of 4th street if you can, maybe 5th as the furthest west. Once you get to around 6th the neighborhood gets pretty bad. There's a lot of startups clustered around t

First, remember that SF is a relatively small city, and you can get from pretty much anywhere to anywhere else in the city via public transit in about an hour max. So don't immediately discount all the areas that don't have startups. There

I saw your post below, thanks for explaining a bit more of the context. Sorry if I came through a bit cynical and sarcastic, reading your post I thought you were pushing a more get-rich-quick philosophy. Thanks for clarifying.

That's a very good point. What's the best way to get across to a interviewer that you would love to work on outside projects, but simply were not allowed to?

Then they probably have a staff working full time generating content for those newsletters? I'm not doubting that there are newsletters worth $25/month, I'm doubting that creating a newsletter worth that is a one-man job. (And especially a

I love how "make the product" is step one. That's the easy part, right? I also think the complete premise is off target. This guy is talking about selling a newsletter for $25/month. Most high-quality magazines go for $25/year, or even less

Objective-J looks as much like Javascript as Objective-C looks like C. To an objective-C programmer, it looks like home :) And in both cases, you can drop down to the native language whenever you want. In objective-C you can write straight

Fantastic project. I'd like to see some high resolutions output samples though, that page only links to thumbnails. The video is interesting, but you have to pause it to get a good look at the output.

Sorry to hear about the apathy of the people around you when you got robbed. Unfortunately, I think this is more of a problem with our society in general, rather than this city in particular.... people are scared to get involved, and especi

Disclosure: This is coming from a San Francisco native. (one of those rare ones that still live in the city.) As soon as I read this sentence: "There may be some fog, or a bit of rain from time to time, but most of the time it’s sunny and h

And if your code is easy to understand, you won't get paid. I still don't understand how this is a business model.

I don't really see how this is a business model. Also, how exactly do you determine if someone can understand the code? If you're determining who has to pay based on if they don't understand your code, doesn't that incentivize you to write
