Preact is not a good comparison. If it "has the same API as React", then it's not solving any of the problems that the post talks about. Bundle size is 1 problem of JS-heavy SPAs but the post goes into many other drawbacks no

Why does HTTP3 still support server push? When Chrome dropped it from their HTTP/2 implementation, I thought it was dead. Cloudflare has also said they’re not implementing server push in their HTTP/3 support and will instead encou

At some point, it feels like every company is basically re implementing a kind of internal Heroku. I feel like there’s a billion dollar business in putting that on rails for medium to large enterprises.

Airbnb ruined Couchsurfing because it changed social expectations around hosting strangers at your house. Before Airbnb, no one really even thought people would pay for the privilege to sleep on your couch or your spare bedroom. But once Ai

With the frequency of these breaches, it feels like we are moving to a post-security world where SSNs and DOBs are simply public information. Would that really be such a bad thing? Both seem completely replaceable as authentication steps.

How much of a chunk of the 1-year treasury market is $61.9B? Can't figure out how to look that up. Seems like it could be a decent business if it was legit.

A $2 billion sports franchise is so obviously not a 90% amortizable asset. The Clippers don’t even own their stadium.

For anyone interested in OODA, the Robert Coram biography of John Boyd, and "Certain to Win" by the Boyd disciple Chet Richards are good entry points. The value of OODA isn't really in providing a model for individual-level d

"multihreaded programs" seems like a pretty big use case, and it seems to occur in just about every major multithreaded C program using glibc malloc. I would agree with you if it didn't seem like other allocators are solving

This problem hit the Ruby community hard about 5 years ago. Basically everyone uses jemalloc or tcmalloc in production in the Ruby community nowadays. What frustrates me is the malloc community's sort of blase reaction along the lines

Loved that video. The avalanche theory still has some explanatory power as the proximate cause of the first point, although Lemmino points out how crappy the design of the stove was in the first place IIRC.

I live in New Mexico. I found 3 or 4 dead songbirds outside my house this fall. This was happening in ~October. The die-off has halted since then, I'd estimate it lasted about 3 weeks.
