I do remember more than that about the movie. It really impacted me. It's funny that I started reading the book many years later, not knowing that it was the inspiration for the movie. I realized almost half way through the book.

I remember a time when there was the good, the bad and the ugly. You knew which was each with a cursory glance. Now there are a hundred, most of them below the cut, with top ranked = SEO junk.

This sounds pretty much like good cop, bad cop. Also the bottom line: is it wise to have deals with someone that's not accountable to their own people? What about Xi being replaced by someone with a different personality? While it'

Not a general computing book, but the one that I really enjoyed reading and following was File Structures by Michael J. Folk and Bill Zoellick. It introduced B trees to me and a certain way of thinking about computing problems.

But the IKEA hate seems mostly based on snobbery and/or brand awareness. I don't hate them, on the contrary I'm a regular customer that doesn't mind assembling. I dislike the "maze", yes I know the shortcuts,

I haven't tried this one, but I will. My reason is that I quit Linux because they took away the two pane, file tree in the left, file explorer from me. I was using lxde and suddenly they decided to "redesign" the explorer (mo

Maybe for huge orchards, but I said it was hypnotic because it was more of a technical work. Once the trenches are in place (and they can be made with a tractor) the only work is one move with the hoe to switch the water flow from one trenc

Not sure if you didn't understand or you're being deliberately obtuse to make another point. Of course the implication was that the USA can still thrive even spending that money, a pittance compared with public expenses in othe

The city is gorgeus in general. Their hobby of burning things and making a big noise with gunpowder is also a plus for me... I hope I can go to Fallas one of these years.

My home as a child had been a duck farm. My father converted it to an orange trees (and all kind of vegetables) orchard, it was 3k m2 (that's almost eight acres) so we had plenty of space. It was hypnotic watching the sharecropper, wit

No, I'm from another country. From my point of view it's more like stop wasting money for other useless purposes so we can grow. If we've been able to survive, no doubt the USA can thrive.

So who exactly is going to pay for all this? Let's see (only what I have answers to): Cheap rents and affordable housing. Allow more vertical building. Protective nets for periods of illness/unemployment/etc. I and my e

But the group of people that made up the "old we" (to the extent that such a thing ever existed) still exists. I'm afraid that even if that's true, the us vs. them mindset is polluting the air.

We don't have to lean into defeatism and give up. I think the problem is we . Was there a we before? Maybe but there is no we anymore for sure. The Net used to be kind of a different world that escaped how the offline world work

That's like speaking to little children, that are learning to talk, reproducing their errors. Some adults believe that it's cute, but it's idiotic, confuses the babies and make their progress more difficult and slow.

Exactly, there are none. Some persons make them a little different because they also speak other languages, like French or English where they're different. There's no problem wiht that, but it's not needed either.

In Spanish B and V sounds exactly the same. H and J are strictly different. H is the only silent letter. Let me remind you that I was answering to your comment where you say: ...read signs and essays aloud without having the faintest idea
